The HTC Flyer thread

So, anyone else got one? I put in a cheeky offer for a brand new one on eBay not expecting it to be accepted but it was. :rolleyes:

I'll get it next week, so if anyone has one let me know - I notice there is no ROM scene to speak of but to be honest I've left my Galaxy Tab on pretty much a stock 2.3.3 ROM.

It is good tablet as HTC mobile phone，but I found it is too small for me after tryed in carphone warehouse。waiting your review after you got it。

It should be arriving tomorrow. The attraction to me is that it is 7 inch, which I find the ideal tablet size and also Honeycombe is supposed to be coming out on it which should futureproof it more over my Galaxy Tab. I also like Sense, especially the email client/widget for my work Exchange so it ticks a lot of boxes for me. The only thing is that the one I'm getting is the non 3G version so I'll need to tether when on the move but I can live with that.

I had a brief go in the shops - not a good experience as it kept reloading the launcher when coming out of demo mode and taking ages to load. Will have another go on Friday. Build quality was a bit worrying too - the white bit a the bottom felt very loose.

It's small and it's not as slick and responsive as other Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablets.

How much are you paying for it?

That price is also really the problem I have with it, it's too close to the other bigger tablets for them not to seem a better option but if you must have something smaller than 10" I guess this is the only real option currently.

I wouldn't say that, I absolutely love my Galaxy Tab, it's used far more than my Transformer.

I know, I think I have an addiction.

I didn't really mean to buy the Flyer, I didn't think I'd get a brand new one for ~£300 when I made the offer. I'm planning on selling the Transformer soon and will probably sell the Tab or Flyer after a family trip to the states next month. I imagine having two 7 inch tablets on a 10 hour flight will be quite useful with a toddler, we have a load of books/games on there for him and when he's not using one we can both watch films etc.

An iPad is the last thing I want, it has nothing I like about my current tablets and all the downsides of my large Transformer plus more iPad/Apple specific downsides!

EDIT: Oh, and still not got my Flyer. It was delivered next door and they've gone on holiday now! I managed to get hold of them and another neighbour who has a key is going to let me in to get it. I'll get some pics up then.

As per the OP it was a cheeky offer I made on one for sale on Ebay.

Try making people offers on there, there doesn't seem to be a great market for them, or indeed much interest - just take a look at this thread! However I've heard good things from all the right people and there are rumours of Honeycombe which is what made me interested in the first place.

Hi all ive been useing a PS3 browser for to years now and its time i upgraded so ive orderd a HTC flyer from overclockers should get it tomorrow . Is my first pc tablet and to be honest ive not got much idear of what is what so can you help ?

Do i need a sim card ?
Why do i need a sim card ?
Can i use a pay as you go sim card ?
Does it come with a sim card if so what typ ?
PS eny basic advive to get me started please Thanks

It looks to me like the flyer version OC sells is Wifi only so no need to worry about sims as it won't use them

If you got the 3G version you can use a sim with data on it, most mobile companies do a data only package if you want that. I don't think you can make calls with the 3G version much like the IPAD one, though if you root and rom it may be possible.

Someone ported the HTC Flyer rom to the desire HD. I tried it out, not too bad really.
