The Jose Mourinho Appreciation Thread

Jardim is about to be sacked at Monaco. Could be interesting, he's highly rated.

I do think a great attacking manager who can sign 4-5 players will be able to develop our team to compete with Man City (or close), but with Mourinho we're in limbo for now. I see no way back for him at all.

This from Castles today: https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport...ws/manchester-united-star-paul-pogba-13675979

In a post-match dressing down delivered in front of the entire United team, Mourinho is understood to have called Pogba “a virus”. According to a dressing-room source, Pogba was admonished with the words: “You don't play. You don't respect players and supporters. And you kill the mentality of the good honest people around you.”

So that's pretty much the end of either Pogba or Mourinho at the club.

It's clear as day nobody is enjoying playing for him, there are numerous problems but Mourinho is mostly accountable, the man is toxic.

Considering Mourinho's previous experience and history, this is much worse than Moyes... never thought I'd say that.

Of course they are ultimately to blame, but Mourinho has done plenty of damage himself. The board are not directly influencing player performances, they have put Mourinho and his team in place, backed him (until this summer anyway) and now he's tearing everything apart and upsetting the players. Which is exactly what he's done before.

It would be a shame to lose players like Pogba, Martial and De Gea. Sure, Pogba hasn't done well in general, but if he could play with freedom and confidence, he has the ability to completely run games unlike any other player.

There is only one solution here. Mourinho has to go.

Worth having a quick look at Mourinho's main signings:
  • Pogba £90m - unique and very talented midfielder, Mourinho has alienated him and he doesn't even play now
  • Lukaku £75m - undeniably a good striker, mismanaged, low on confidence playing in a team with no tactics
  • Fred £50m - doesn't even play...
  • Matic £35m - totally over the hill, but playing with no confidence, seen as undroppable despite being awful
  • Mkhitaryan £28m - did nothing of note, was quickly moved on
  • Bailly £30m - good start but has injury problems and ultimately was dropped
  • Lindelof £30m - initial problems but has improved a bit lately, still suspect
  • Sanchez £record breaking PL wage - horrendous form, barely plays
  • Zlatan - actually good, shame about injuries
  • Dalot - promising young RB
So all in all - he's not exactly spent peanuts, and he doesn't seem to be able to pick good players. Any he does get, he ruins them.

Absolute disaster from top to bottom, he needs hounding out. I really don't care at this point.

I pretty much agree with fez on this (and everyone else isn't far wrong either). The whole thing is a disaster.

There may not be a quick solution but just having Mourinho at the helm is doing damage week by week, to the club, the players, and ultimately the fans too who are sick of Mourinho and actually despairing each game. That can't be allowed to continue, surely. I personally don't look forward to our games now, it's a complete farce. Mourinho is doing a worse job than Moyes and LvG ever did, which isn't something I ever thought I'd say. Moyes was awful, but he was out of his depth and actually trying.

The hierarchy and direction of the club has for me become a separate issue now to Mourinho himself (aside from the fact they won't sack him yet). While that is ultimately to blame, Mourinho has completely lost control of everything.

There's talk that Woodward and Mendes had meetings around the time of the Newcastle game, but couldn't agree on a settlement deal. I probably believe that.

Now this from Castles (the Gestifute mouthpiece): https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport...dible-cost-manchester-united-binning-13745483

Manchester United face a bill in the region of £24million should the English Premier League club elect to replace Jose Mourinho as manager before the end of the winter transfer window.

While the compensation package due to the 55-year-old will fall by 25 percent should Mourinho fail to secure qualification for next season's Champions League, United face a minimum liability of £18m to dismiss the coach who has led them to two major trophies and their highest Premier League finish of the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Is it worth limping on for another 3 months to save £6m? I know it'll create some issues, but Carrick can manage as caretaker for now, it literally couldn't be any worse.
