finally got a nasty after 3 years of staying clean
it was just a fake virus spyware thing that kept informing me via a fake windows security centre pop up that a fake trojan was harvesting my bank details, periodicaly taking screenshots of my private parts and my selling internal organs on the black market in china in an effort to persuade me to buy some anti-spyware program

it turned out to be two pretty harmless files in c:\windows\myusername\google\

but it made me waste 4 hours searching the internet for a cure thanks to all of the people on forums giving out bad advice and telling people to search for files that arent relevant to th persons problems.

so what was your last bad experience and how long did it take to find a solution?

130 Virii / trojans / dodgy bits on my parent's machine.

After removing it all, it barely functioned. Formatted it back to health and stuck some draconian security software on there. Took the best part of 6 hours to get all the rubbish off, formatting + patching took less than 2.

dad managed to infect my laptop a couple of years ago. Think it was called "internet optimizer". The last thing I had on my main pc was called antiexe. Must have been over 10 yrs ago now.

Haven't had one in many years. Even XP has managed to stay secure. That said, I noticed the amount of virii I was getting correlated to the amount of software I was downloading illegally. Software I had no need for. Since I stopped that and started buying stuff, no problems.

Probably 3-4 years ago when I shared my PC with the family. My mum opened a dodgey attachment. Don't know what it was exactly, they're all the same these days, but I formatted and installed Avast and never had a problem since. Even with an assortment of dodgey downloands and a torrent of spam mail it always grabs a virus before anything bad can happen.

If only i could send this sort of virus to some hotties PC :D

well i made that bit up but it was trying to claim i had some made up virus that was doing all these really bad things in an attempt to get my to buy there product to fix it.

i dont know how they can even get away with something like this......

i got it from browsing the videos over at veoh (youtube like site that lets some episodes from TV live on there aslong as the company who owns the copyright doesnt complain) it was from an advert on the site not the actual site itself.

i seem to get a lot of trojan warnings from adverts these days i which google and the likes would be more careful with the adverts they allow people to use on adsense etc

Got one the other day, took me by suprise to say the least. It's the lastest outbreak after the Fake UPS email in July...

It forwards you on from a hijacked domain, only noticed it when the random icons appeared on my desktop, thankfully found it before restarting and managed to wipe it out within 20mins or so. Was gutted NOD didn't pick it up
