The Legend of Zelda - Tears of the Kingdom(use spoiler tags!)

I find the criticism of a lack of story in BOTW odd. Elden Ring is one of the best games ever and its story is light at best.

They're both similar games in that they gave you a massive world to explore, and a load of tools, and let people go nuts.

Obviously ER does a lot of it more thoroughly, as a genuine RPG, and legacy dungeons (which in fairness BOTW has four of), but you have to remember that 6 years ago the idea of just dropping someone in a world and saying "go nuts" was pretty revolutionary.

There's a reasonable and very fair argument they BOTW isn't what you'd expect from a Zelda game, but it's an excellent game in its own right, and for the time was groundbreaking

Criticism is tiny really, it did sell more than 30 million which considering it's only available on one platform is quite outstanding.

I am playing through it now whilst on holiday. It’s still a stunning game. Definitely picking up the sequel.

not just that, it also sold the switch. how many people bought the switch for zelda alone, and have barely touched it since, even if they've played other switch games, those wouldn't have been enough to sell the console

Yep and they'll sell a ton more for this one too, Nintendo really know how to market games. That and release them well made, and likeable.

It was the reason I bought a Switch having not owned a Nintendo console since the GC. I have bought a hell of a lot since I’ve owned a switch though. It’s a brilliant console.

Only with zelda though :p there rest is mostly junk. Look at mario kart. The same game from the wii u.

Once I finish ttok I'm almost certain to sell my switch as it just never gets use

While it is from the Wii U it's still a solid game. And it's getting a lot of dlc content. I guess Mario Kart 9 will be on the next console.

In theory yes but I wouldn't put it past Nintendo to launch Mariokart Super Deluxe 8 with the next gen Switch. They are utterly shameless with how they treat and milk their customers.

I highly doubt it but smash Bros ultimate would probably be. Don't see how they'll top that.

Beyond hyped but understand people's reservations here, we're very much in the dark with what the game is going to offer (if anything) to differentiate itself from BoTW.

Depends. Do you consider cod games each year to be a dlc of the previous year?

If they reuse a massive portion of the maps and assets then yes, yes I would.

Am I wrong to say this looks like a DLC for the original game ?

Currently yes it does look that way but you have to rationalise the fact that Nintendo have ben working on this for over 6 years so you would hope that they are going to wow us when it comes out and this is just a sneak peak of a tiny part of what we will get.

I was hoping this would arrive with a Switch 2

I actully think I liked Immortals Fenyx Rising more than BOTW, its worth a play if you havn't checked it out.
BOTW was really a Wii U title, you'd have hoped there'd be something they'd get out of the Switch hardware now they're free of those limitations but it looks very similar.

Indeed. Immortals I have up the first 2 hours I tried it and didn't play it again until a year or more later when it came to gamepass and then couldn't put it down. Great game. Very similar to zelda. The one issue I had was the story was a bit less interesting than zelda, just because zelda has a long history and each game adds to the big over all story, which immortals could never compete with.
