The Legend of Zelda - Tears of the Kingdom(use spoiler tags!)

I have high hopes but nothing I have seen so far has me particularly excited. They have spent more than 6 years developing this sequel. I really hope they just aren't showing much so we are surprised but the fact they are reusing the map from the original makes me worried. That was huge so adding loads of sky areas to it is either going to make the game monstrously big or you simply won't care about loads of the "old" world.

My favourite elements from the first one were by and large the exploration. Without that its not that special. They are going to have to be holding a lot back to wow people.

i don't beleive they will be using much of the old map, and any they do, it'll be done well is my belief.

my expectations are high, not because BOTW was amazing, which it was, but because majoras mask was done so freaking well, and it's the only other time i can think of when they released a game, and then using the same engine, just with a few improvements, made another game straight away after without a huge break.

The fact that you can now make better use of the items you collect is great-there were plenty of times where you just ended up with 50 Keese Eyes or Chuchu Jellies with no use or need for them. Now I/we can fuse and use them as a homing/freeze arrow.

Just small improvements like that make a world of difference and will make people think differently about how to tackle a certain situation.

I'm conflicted about BOTW. It was impressive but the story was non existent and the world felt a bit empty. I hope they can step it up a notch.

I really need to resist buying a Switch for the 3rd time to play this. Only reason I bought the previous two was to play BOTW. Maybe I should just keep hold of them in future

Gonna get a lot of flack but I did not light BotW. People bang on about massive free roaming, yes that's true and you find yourself running so long without any NPC interaction and barely any enemies. I agree with Minstadave, it did feel empty.

Where there heck are the dungeons which is a staple in the Zelda series? Instead we had a bunch of bogus shrines.

Them weapons breaking, that was so lame.

This looks like a lot of assets will be reused and I'm betting more empty roaming with the exception of sky islands.

Having said that, the only thing I liked was the fusing feature. Gonna see some wild stuff on YouTube.

Not sure about this one yet, looks like botw dlc.
Agreed. I have it on pre-order but I'm not super hyped for it. I think that's partly because it does, as you say, look like DLC for BOTW, but I also feel the Switch needs a hardware refresh to make this style of game run more fluidly. Anyone remember the 10 fps in the Korok forest ? Ouch.

Im with you 100%. It was an empty sandbox of a game...i still dont know where the ridiculous scores and shouts from IGN presenters came from.

The difference here being I think this is actually the longest we've waited between main series Zelda releases, so expectations are high to see what all that time brings.

I'm looking forward to it but I really hope they've been holding back something major, as what we've seen so far feels like the product of a quick turnaround project, not the result of the longest ever cycle between major releases.

no way! it doesn't feel that long. is this really the longest gap? I figured botw and the one that came before was longer due to them essentially starting from scratch

I think Skyward Sword to BotW was a similar lengthy time period but obviously there was a huge step change in both the scale and style of the game but also available hardware jumping from Wii to Switch.

It's absolutely nowhere near being a quick turnaround game, which I think is why the excitement levels are tempered, people expected/wanted another revolution but from what we've seen so far it feels more like an expansion - I think DLC is underselling it a bit though.
