The Lidl argument

So I saw on the local news last night that in a Lidl store in Birmingham an argument broke out between an assistant and a customer in what's being reported over the cost of carrier bags.

Now all the audio from the CCTV footage is not audible but this is what's said....

CASHIER: 'Arrogant, arrogant, that's what he is. He's wasting time?'

MAN: 'I am wasting time?'

CASHIER: '£16.70. No, I am right. You don’t judge me and my personal life. You understand? You’re a customer. Just go, just go, just go. Listen, Mohammed. It’s arrogant. Ten years in this place.'

MAN: 'And you messed up one customer.'

CASHIER: 'Who are you? Who are you? Who are you to judge me?'

MAN: 'I judge you - the way you behave, that's why I judge you.'

CASHIER: 'How dare you judge me and my personal life. Who the **** is he?'

MAN: 'See, she's having a bad day. Are you having a bad day?'

CASHIER: 'Are you Muslim? Are you Muslim? You're not a good Muslim. You're not a good Muslim.'

MAN: 'You're having a bad day and you're just taking it out on me.'

CASHIER: 'No, how dare you? He’s not bothering me. I’ve been here 10 years. I was having a good day until I saw your ****ing face. Go. Go. Go on, you Muslim, die. Arrogant man. Arrogant Muslim man.'

The interesting part is the fact the cashier is of Asian appearance, and you cannot help but think if the cashier was white this would tear the country apart and the cashiers life would be hell, but people on the news item interviewed simply brush it off as she's having a bad day.

And interestingly enough the only paper to go with this is the DM, and the only other link on Google is huffington post and Malaysia chronicle article.

I dont even understand what is going on in that conversation. It just sounds like two complete idiots.
 
I do not even know what the OP is saying or what the argument is actually supposed to be about, quite frankly how an alleged argument about a carrier bag is even worth discussing, let alone a national news story is beyond my ken.

It was just a local news story on the TV last night, I didn't read about it on the DM site, and my thoughts on it and the reason I posted is that in todays world I cannot help but think if this was a white person who was the cashier then this would be a very different story.

That's probably true, but in all walks of life the minority get treated different to the majority and people often feel the need to redress the balance. I think it partly links in with the British psyche in terms of needing to defend the underdog.

Not that I'm calling muslims underdogs, or dogs at all.....oh god this is awkward
 
From her looks and 'accent' cashier looks black. She has been villified on all the sites that i've been on, so I dont understand how it would be different if it were a white person.

What sites? Op's explained that he feels that it would be painted differently in the press if it had been a white person. So unless you're referring to press sites, back to school for you.
 
Yeah id be ****ed if I worked in Lidl for 10 years too :D

Lidl is **** anyway, theres a reason I walk past it and go to the Tesco next door. No signs anywhere making finding anything a pain, staff are rude, charging for bags? lol gtfo! I bring my own bags but the principal of it sucks.
 
Surely this should have gone in the 'ever experienced racism from a minority' thread. But yes if the perpetrators had been white I'd imagine the fall out would be even worse.

Like that story about the police lawfully killing someone which began the riots. if he had been shot by a black guy it would hardly been a side show.

Probably for the same reasons white folk cant drop the N bomb to black folk but they can bang it aroud willy nilly!!! WHITE FOLK BE THE DEVIL!!!
