The M6.. Variable speed limit?

I was told once that if there is no speed limit displayed the cameras are off, not sure how true that is.

When last over and using the M25 I was told if the variable speeds are not set (e.g off) then so are the cameras. I went through a craptonne of them at more than 70 and had no flashes.

Whether the same applies to the M6 I have no idea but the theory at least for the M25 is sound.

*revival*

I'm heading back down to London for a few days again tommorow, am I best to take the M6 or the M6 Toll? :)

The M6 is getting a bit clearer now, less roadworks, I've never seen the variable speed limit active, and I've been down south a lot lately.

Edit:
I can't find any news on this, are these gantries just temporary? Has it got to the point where we have to put roadworks in place for so long to temporarily install such permanent signage and speed cameras, so some people can come and mend the road surface?

no they're not

they're already starting to line the length of the M62 and M1

the entire motorway network is going to covered by them before they are finished.

Way to quote a month old post.

I've found a new way to deal with the ones on the M42, where they usually are active. Accelerate hard between them and brake before you pass each gantry.

Please tell me you dont really do this, its so so annoying for people on cruise control :(

Was coming through the M42 ones the other week, ealry hours of morning, bit of sleet about but nothing setlling on road

the variable limit was set to 10

hah 10?! Sheesh! I've seen it down to ten a couple of times for no apparent reason at one section in the early am. I think there may have been a lan closure, but it had happened several back. hm.

A lan closure?! Damn gaming geeks!! hahaha :D

Thankfully, even though I live near the m6, I don't have to use it hardly ever. It's a joke by enlarge.

"By and large" is the phrase you're trying to use there.

I don't know what I'd do if I saw 10 on the gantries, probably stop the car get out and just end it all there and then.

M6 is a nightmare at the moment, regularly takes me 3 hours to get to Manchester a journey which used to take 1.5 hours.

Anyone noticed the gantry cameras aren't as easy to spot on the M6 making people stick to the limit more?
