** The MacWorld Expo 2008 Discussion Thread **

You can always avoid coming to the forum and just visit Engadget's spoiler free site around 6 or 7pm, watch the video / read the transcript then? I'll probably do that instead of sitting down at 5pm reading bits of information coming in every 30 seconds... I want to watch the show~

Ah - didnt know they did that - I may hang on as well!

@ afraser2k - I know - I'll be stuck on a sweaty train by then...nice! Mayeb do what Dr. Jones suggests and hang on!?

I'm pretty confident that if another iPhone came out in the next couple of months anyone who bought an original would get get some sort of deal on the new one anyway

So wouldnt bother me in the slightest about being an early adopter :)

I suppose so - I know that I had to serioulsy bite my lip and hang on this long - so i think I'll try and stick it out.. would be nice if Steve announced the 3g bump etc... but afaik - 3g is not being used to its full potential in this country... so maybe the iPhone will be the device that gets it kickin...

I also *think* I remember reading somewhere about it taking 6 months to approve the use??

Anyway - whatever happens I can guarantee that at least 1 new apple product will be bought as a result!

What makes you confident about that? When has that ever happened before, except for the iPhone price cut coming after just a few months?

The 3G iPhone won't come out today, and that's fact.

You would have heard of FCC approval applications (because of the change in chipsets) on MacRumors or the like.

I'll probably go home, have dinner and catch one of the spoiler-free sites at my leisure.. not sure I could be bothered with trickle-updates this year.

Why would they have the 3G iPhone go through the FCC when it's main market would be Europe .

I'm waiting till today passes and then I'll decide if I'm getting my iPhone. 8 > 16GB would be awesome.

The thin MacBook thing... as tempting as it would be to run out and buy one I'd have serious questions about build quality/practicality and heat dissipation. I'd definitely wait a few months to give chance for anything ugly to rear its head.

Not long to wait now! :D

Good thinking... I've only just bought my macbook, which I love - so I dont think I'd be in the market for anything for a couple of years at least - but you never know...

Well, it's unlikely they'd release a 3G capable handset in the EU and not in the US.. not unless Jobs wants a MEGA backlash.

True! Although I'm pretty sure I remember reading somewhere that the yanks have never used 3g in any great amount. Even though the UK and Europe are only just ahead in terms of their 3g usage - it may be a viable option?? :) hmm!

Although I still agree with you that he would want to avoid a pasting from the US citizens!

While I think about it - do you think its likely that O2 will announce new tarriffs anytime soon? Possibly off the back of a bumped spec?

Coming out 4/5 months after the original came out, there would be a huge uproar by customers to offer some kind of deal be it a trade in deal with the old phone or some sort of discount on the new one

I know its our fault for being early adopters but coming out so soon they would likely do something to avoid all the hassle

If its announced today for a later release this year, then thats a different story

Even then I wouldn't be bothered, all I'd have to do is buy another phone rather than a whole new contract

I would think that would be more likely... although Steve usually says.. "and they're available for you to order today.. etc"

Hmm..

5hrs20mins..

Not with the iPhone, he announced it last year at MacWorld and said it was shipping in June ;)

Hope that leaked keynote isn't true. The only thing I'm looking at is the 30" Cinema display and their current ones are well out of date imo. Dell have released a new 30" display, NEC are officially announcing a new 30" display at MacWorld and Samsung are showing their 30" LED backlit display at MacWorld. LG are also due to bring one out soon as well so you would think Apple would respond as well to this.

I think its very rookie to let something that plays a key role in apples professional model systems get so out of date. I can only assume the reason for this is to delay it out so long that when they release the new ones they are gonna be so brilliant it will force all previous owners to want to upgrade and really strike at the market.

They have such a brilliant product line and the ACDs look the part but they just don't perform. Apple could have had my money several times over now because I need a new screen that bad.

I absouletely love it how everyone loves Steve. ****** :D

It's weird, I see these keynotes and just think to myself, "This is where I want to be in 10-15years - working in an innovative business". I love Job's charisma on stage and really makes me feel good inside for some reason. Same with Bill Gate's keynotes, I love them all!

one thing thats a little odd about those picture of the MBAir is that is running tiger, not leopard, surely if it was real it would have leopard on it? not sure if anyone else commented on that, at work, so don't have time to read the whole thread :p

can't wait for steve, lol :D
