Since I now have a back garden I have been on the lookout for a BBQ. I have searched high and low and the findings have been disappointing.

First of all, gas is a massive NO. The MAN-BQ must be capable of running on nothing but burning bits of trees and petrol. Gas is more of a.....gay way of going about it.

Secondly, size. It must be too big. You never know when you'll need to stick half a cow on the thing. Most hardware store offerings are ridiculously puny. It must also be made of metal.

This is where I'm stuck. Apart from having it ridiculously big and able to run on petrol and wood, I can't think of what else would make it better. Any suggestions? What would your ultimate BBQ be?

If anywhere stocks such monsters please point me in the direction.

Here is my technical mock up...

Lets see your ultimate BBQ.

Screw the BBQ, just put the meat next to some semtex and eat whatever you can find after you press the red button.

The ultimate BBQ is a giant magnifying glass in your garden, nothing beats roasting your meat with the power of THE SUN!

Brick built and large.
Make teh coal tray out of steel plate welded together. And just find some mesh and cut to size. Much cheaper than the kits and can make to your spec.

If you can't weld. You can get the metal cut to the right sizes at the merchants and then take to a small independent body shop and give someone a back hander it won't take them long.

I want my parents. it just needs a lid and a spit attachment adding.

Now THAT is an epic idea. I fail at welding though and consequently don't have a welder.:(

How far from Jonny69 do you live? The double barrel would give a cooking area of 1.1m squared that is huge.

You would also have to look at welding on legs, steel tubing is the easiest and bent steel bar for handles, hinges etc are easy.

If you remind me on tonight I will draw something up, I have done a quick sketch tho.

We have 2 (I have no idea why) large tray style BBQ's, They are about the same size as a barrel but only around 4 inches deep. Got them from our local garden centre I think and looks like they would suit you perfectly as they just need screwing together (the tray is one big unit which you screw the legs to).

EDIT: A bit like the above, but bigger...
