The Mass Effect (PC) Discussion Thread

Completed the main story yesterday as a soldier, replaying it now as a Renegade Biotic :p I'm gonna take my time with this character.

heh exactly the same here, was actually kinda wondering if I could be bothered with playing it through again...

Does anyone have a clue as to when the DLC is being released?

if you like KOTOR youll like MA its very similar in its mechanics but you have more control of the fights.
Ah sweet! :D

I've just finished KOTOR the first one...so I kind of want to play through the 2nd one now...hoping the AI is a bit better and less characters getting stuck...but I guess that's wishful thinking. After that however, will have a crack at Mass Effect.

So few hours in the day to get through these games :(

is there a limit cap for the characters...?

cause I am replaying it with the same character.. starting at level 47 only at harder setting

Anyone played this on a 4800 series card? Does AA work? 8xAA from CCC seems like its there but the reason I am asking is that I applied 24xAA and it was still playable

Has anyone ever got this error when launching the game:

A required security module cannot be activated
This program cannot be executed (5016) 5016

?

I've just moved everything over to a new case today and have changed my hard drive to the SATA controller (ICH8) booted and went on the internet etc., then changed it back to the gigabye SATA controller (which it was originally). I've also changed my DVD-drive to a Sony Optiarc SATA, it was previously an IDE drive.

Can anyone help?

Update - Found out it was Filemon that was messing with it. All is fine now :)

Did you do the UT3 thingy to get AA to work?

I believe the game doesn't support AA natively.

What UT3 thing? When I applied 8xAA you could tell it was there, I tried some other methods but that made the whole game blury, just 24xAA was odd when that was enabled been only slightly choppy so probs did not work.

I think it's a recent thing in the 8.7 beta (or possibly hotfix) which enabled it via CCC override on 4800 cards. It's still not possible to enable it in the game.

I was using CCC AA, that works no? Allthough I dont believe when I apply 24xAA it actually is applying 24xAA, maybe defaulting to 4xAA?

I'm replaying the 360 version to get the Ally achievements. I think they be bugged but I still want to get them. Even though I've completed the game 3 times and got non any of them.

"Dam you ally achievements I'll get you in the end!"

Have just started playing this and am really enjoying it so far but it sometimes feels a bit too simplistic with regards to skill points and companion control. It also sometimes feels a bit like The Witcher but with guns, probably just the camera angles making me think this. THe music is great though, lifted straight from classic 80s sci-fi and, in particular, Blade Runner.

Can anyone help I'm pulling what little hair I have left out.

Just bought the game and installed it under Vista 32 fully patched, latest service pack. Running a Xonar DX2 sound card and 4870 with the latest hot fix.

When I try to start the game it just sits there spinning the blue cursor. I have tried everything.

1. Turned UAC off
2. Run as admin
3. Compatibility mode

Totally at a loss. It will just not start.

I thought this game did some sort of internet authorisation? It doesnt seem to do anything.

Also what the 2nd DVD for. Doesn't seem to do anything.

Help :(

Help :(

I had a lot of trouble and found it was the hardware audio was on that caused my blue screens and i would go over to the forums as quite a few people have got the same thing as you.
and someone posted on the mass effect forums about trouble when configuring the game from main menu page and not once game is loaded and using options menu.

Tried everything with the configuration. I'm currently installing a fresh install of XP and taking it from there.

Very dissapointed that the game just has not been tested sufficiently.

I'm a software developer and this sort of thing should just not happen.

Thanks for replying mate.

Nobody find the game just a bit "jittery" ? Like your running through areas and its loading up stuff causing some stutter.
