The Matrix

Matrix was the first film I watched on DVD and needless to say I was blown away. Loved the film (shame they ruined it with two abysmal sequels) and loved the improvement over VHS.

Watched this recently in HD and it was amazing. The quality was so good and really makes a good film even better.

The only reason the sequels were received so badly was because the first film really was utterly groundbreaking (if you haven't watched Anime before at least :p). They weren't bad films, just nowhere near as good.

The second one had some good bits in.

The third was just cack.

As much as I liked Trinity, the errr..girl from Underworld is just awesome. I'd have loved her to sink her teeth into my meat.

Mmm... Kate Beckinsale... :D

don't patronize us by saying that it's trendy to think the other 2 films sucked by comparison to the first one, because they did by comparison.

They didn't share the same sense of association you could make with the first because the new films didn't position you effectively enough from the protagonists view point because everything suddenly became too outlandish, it became impossible to relate.

Unlike the first, which almost had a sense of whimsy about them - what with saying deja vu and various other little oddities could be explained away as being the matrix universe having "glitches". The latter two destroyed that verisimilitude and suffered for it, badly.

They also didn't have the same sense of character AT ALL and every character was a bit too hammy. Morpheus's character "development" was so serious pork laden then i almost converted to Judaism in protest.

I could go on..

B@

omg please dont, lol.

I enjoyed all three films, although wasnt keen on the overall ending.

I remember watching this with my Dad when it first came out and we were both amazed, to this day it's probably still my favourite film.

I have watched them all back to back a few times.. and ... the 2nd and 3rd films both suck and blow.

They tried too hard IMO

The Matrix is one of my fave films of all time. 9 years on too.

I remember having to explain it to my parents when they had hired it out on VHS. I'd never heard of it, so they watched it though for the 2nd time with me also watching, trying to explain the basic principles of what the hell was happening.

Also remember hearing about the sequels from my mate, how excited we both were.... Then how disappointed we both where when the first one came out *sigh* lol.

This came out the same summer as Episode 1, i remember going to the cinema with all the friends in uni to watch it at Warner Village in Plymouth, might even still have the ticket stub somewhere !

I watched all 3 matrix films for the first time last month (dont ask me where Ive been) and felt 1 and 2 where just as good as each other - 3rd was run of mill rubbish.

I love the 2nd movies soundtrack. When RATM kicks in towards the end of the first though... ooo i got shivers. I love that part

I completely agree. I think if you go in without all the *cool to hate the sequels* and *first is a classic movie* then most people will see that the second is just as good as the first. They both have great bits and they both have crap bits.

I still use the first film to set up mine and family/friends 5.1 systems.. straight to the lobby scene for surround testing (bullets pinging all over the place) then to the helicopter scene for low down grunt testing as it explodes shaking the Sub!...

I also have some other material, but always get a 'Wow' and gasps when I stick the Matrix in!! :D

Thanks! Finally someone agrees with me :)

Only thing i'd say about the second one is that I hope they re-do some/all of the CG scenes as the computer rendered Neo is particularly poor in places.
