The meaning of "nippy"

Just done some investigating and it turns out the old 60bhp engine was replaced with a 70bhp duratech engine a couple of years ago which maybe helps a bit over the older ones I've been in.

i got passed by a smart car the other week on the M6, he was doing 90+ lol
i was at 85 and he just came straight by.
i wouldnt like to be in something that small at that speed

Based on my missus' friend defining her Corsa 1.4 Automatic as "nippy" I believe the meaning of the word is "small, crap and slow".

I've had a few Ka's as courtesy cars and the later ones with the new engines are a vast improvement over the original pushrod Endura. I find the seats terribly uncomfortable but it is fun to rag the nutts off the little engine and you can really throw them around and they go whichever way the wheels are pointing with no complaints.

The dealers I used give Ka's or Fiesta's as courtesy cars. If you want a Mondeo its £20 for the day. I don't complain becuase they only charge £120 for a service - I could go to another dealer who would give me a Mondeo for free but they want £195 for the same work.

Audi give good courtesy cars.

I have a 2.5tdi Allroad with leather and nav at the moment while my A8 is having a new gearbox fitted. It's a right laugh.

Yeah but look what car you have.

Nippy = Clutch bites like a small dog and the car jerks all over the place so it only possible to make a reasonable gearchange if your feet are sized 6 or below and clad in high heels.

Ford Ka, suprisingly good when I took a ride in my friends; twonged my poor head getting in but it corners better than a mundano so thats a bonus around country lanes. :p

You must have had a knackered one, never had any issues like that in the three that I've driven.

Thats quite possible, it was a courtesy car afterall.

Just remembered the worst thing about it that I forgot to mention. The brakes or lack of. I had a few brown trouser moments coming up to traffic lights etc. They had about 4 inches of travel before anything happened :p

I'm picking up a courtesy car next Tuesday, I wonder what I'll get :D

My mate had a 1.4tdi audi A2 and when it was being serviced has had both a TT 150 and an A4 2.5 Tdi saloon.

Not bad getting a couple of classes up from the car you have.

Yeah, the word nippy is always used to describe something which is generally crap and slow.

I always thought 8v engines didn't like to rev (I hadn't driven one before), but when giving it a booting coming onto the M1 it got to 90+ indicated in 3rd... I was quite surprised and changed up before finding the rev limiter (is there one?!) as it sounded like the engine was going to die.

Similar for 30mph in 1st and 60mph in 2nd..... the gear ratios are alarmingly like that of a larger car - I'm not sure the engine liked me for it, it certainly didn't sound nice, but it managed it.

This was a 1.3i KA yes?

1st- 30mph
2nd-50mph
3rd-75mph
4-93mph
5-100mph.

Thats what the wifes fully serviced KA millienium has just managed (43k on it)
I wouldnt think you get one to rev much higher.

From my own experiences:

1st, 30mph
2nd, just about 60mph
3rd, 85ish
4th, 100
5th, 104(GPS)

I give that car absolutely no mercy.
