the minefield of picking a new monitor... guru help needed plz! :)

Even if you don't register it with manufacturer
I have had monitor replacement
Before simply by the serial number proving it was made
Within the warranty period
Person I got the monitor from died so no receipt either
And £530 B grade I would be offering lot less than £500
More like £425 and hope for £450 counter offer
Going by previous B grade monitors I have bought
Which were I have to say immaculate
Still had the plastic on them
And still working perfectly
cheers bud. quite fancy the g7 32" if i can get one for a decent price.

Aren't B grade monitors guaranteed to be flawed? Why else would someone return a monitor?

Plus the lack of information from OCUK doesn't inspire me with confidence. No mention of any dead pixels etc. which other e-tailers mention when selling b-grade.

Yeah would be nice if ocuk gave more info
But guess that would mean someone having to test every return
Beyond the point of does it turn on
Which would be time consuming
But no not guaranteed to be flawed
Someone might get it and decide
It's too big
Their GPU isn't actually up to pushing enough fps on it
They just don't like the styling
Or whatever other reason since it's people you're dealing with
Their reasons could be totally illogical lol
My last one ad27q was immaculate , still going perfectly
Thinking of changing it to a 34 ultra wide and definitely will be looking
At B grade again :)
From rough memory the ad27q was £450 or little higher new at the time
After a very quick haggle £330 B grade
So pretty significant saving
Could it have turned up with dead pixels or something?
Yeah it's possible but would just have returned it

Way, way, way above his budget tho. 34" UW start at £800 and the new ones are £1000+. For high-FPS gaming and photos he's not going for a cheap VA panel, that's for sure.
If you go for a Dell or LG then yes. There are other brands like the Gigabyte Eagle which are much cheaper. I posted a B-Grade further up.

ive seen some for around 600 which is similar price to the G7. but i think extra wide will also mean more pixels and maybe more GPU power needed to hit around 150fps at 1440p? i dont know if i'd rather have extra wide or just a bigger screen in general as a 32" extra wide means less vertical height than 32" 16:9.

Seeing them in person is always a good idea
If it's possible
Especially if switching to something new
Like ultra wide or ips or va panel
The cheaper ultra wide tend to be va panel not ips
No experience with those but there's the black smearing issue
Though whether it's as apparent to everyone
Seems to depend which reviews you read

Edit
There's also some that keep the 2560x1440 resolution
For 30+ screen if pushing extra pixels is an issue
Though whether that's enough resolution/sharp enough for 30+ I don't know

my eyes arent as good as they used to be so no idea really. considering im currently using an old 28" AOC £100 cheapy i got from my old job anything will be an improvement lol. the other 2 are probably 10+ year old HP 24" 1920x1200s too. :D again pilfered from old job (company closed down so i didnt steal them, i was given them haha)

Yeah would definitely recommend seeing in person then
Most people reviewing monitors
Don't tend to have shot eyesight :cry:
So what looks good or bad to them won't to you
But if those are tn panels you have then IPS colours will blow you away
My first IPS panel was so vivid my eyes were in shock

Depends if by "Photoshop" he means doing professional photo editing where colour accuracy is important, or just some UI etc. design where it's not that critical.

Also, there are a couple of 3440x1440 144hz IPS monitors around that budget, e.g.

If you're worried about pushing too many pixels, and so want to stick with 1440p then I wouldn't go bigger than 27", 32" 1440p will look like, **** the pixels will be bigger than a squirrel's nuts! *

Yup, I've just upgrade from a Benq EX3501R (VA) to an AW3821DW (IPS), and while I've lost a bit of contrast, the improvement in colours is beautiful!

My son has claimed my old monitor, so it's sat on the desk next to my new one, and side by side my old one looks so dull and muted

* slight exaggeration, but it isn't going to look crisp at normal desktop distances if you have even passable eyesight

yeah it doesnt need to be colour perfect, just made to look nice for my woodwork business.
to be fair i use 1080p at the mo on a 28" so i think 32" and 1440 will be just about right for me. until i buy some glasses :P

I would go and view in person first if at all possible (not necessarily the specific monitor, but at least the size/resolution), you might be ok if you're used to it, but I had to get rid of a 27" 1080p after a month (losing a couple of £100 in the process) because it was just too pixelated

yeah was weird at first but i think im used this this kind of pixel density now after using this one for a few years.
