The Moon is moving away from the Earth and in turn the Earth is moving away from the Sun.
The effect is Tidal Acceleration.

the only thing I heard is that the moon is moving away a little bit at a time, so the water tides will be screwed up in a few thousand years.

Its moving away by 3.8cm a year which makes a huge difference when its currently 238857 miles away depending on where it is in irts orbit it can be as close as 225,622 miles or as far as 252,088 miles. They have a mirror on the moon and measure it by lazer iirc

over a billion years in orbit and it moved noticably in 10 years? i dont think so... as far as I know (and others have said) it is moving away 1cm a year ring a bell but it could be totally wrong...

unless its made of paper and is hollow, then maybe the weight of the moon lander has caused the issue?

all i know is i was walking home the other night and the moon looked like it was out of GTA (ie massive) never noticed it before but it looked really odd!

I noticed this but i thought it looked awesome. Moons. The orbit of each of these moons should lie very near the equatorial plane of the planet it orbits, but many, including the Earth’s moon, are in highly inclined orbits. I am also in awe of many transneptunian objects.
