So,earlier this week my wife and I hired a Morgan 3 Wheeler, direct from the factory. We collected it at 9am, and other than an hour for lunch and a fuel stop we didnt stop driving it until we returned to Malvern at 4pm. It's that much fun!

The only windscreens are two tiny wind-deflectors. These actually work better than you might expect. We only had glasses/sunglasses and most of the time we were fine. A couple of kami-kaze flies stung my face, and rain at 60-70mph can actually hurt!

There's so much torque from the 2.0 S&S V-twin that you can pull away without any throttle (if you're gentle).

The noise is in incredible. This one (as are many) was fitted with a sports exhaust. It's inches from your right ear, and when you're on the throttle it's a truly amazing sound!

We headed west towards Wales; Hereford, Abergavenny, Brecon, places like that. There are some fantastic roads around there.

The starter button is under a flap (apparently similar to those used on jet fighters)

After a little rain in the morning the skies opened up for the afternoon:

The dash is refreshingly basic but functional:

The area was pretty rural:

Turning up to a rural pub for lunch caused quite stir, including being asked to park in front of the pub so everyone could take pictures:

There are plenty of videos on Youtube if you want to hear what one sounds like.

Seriously, if you enjoy driving you'll love this car! I think it should be on every petrolhead's bucket list. :D

I could almost be tempted to swap my Plus 8 for one.

Guy who lives behind my parents has had one for as long as I can remember. Love it, very noisy firing up on a Sunday morning but I never used to mind.

I love these, never knew you could rent them! I'll definitely be renting one next summer.

Out of curiosity, how much was it?

More info here.

Cost is £200 for the day including 2 drivers and unlimited miles (we managed over 160!). That's not bad I think. You can also take other options such as overnight or for the weekend. They also hire out the Plus 4 too.

That is awesome and they are not far from me, one question though. What happens if it rains and fills with water, will it be ruined or is there some kind of roof / cover they provide?

Hi there

There's a tonneau roof that comes with it that you can put over it when it's parked. It's pretty basic but it does the job. We used it when we stopped at the pub. It also prevents miscreants from seeing inside. Rain while driving isnt too much of a problem if you keep moving. :) I think if you were one-up you could probably put it over the other half of the cockpit.

I think you should give it a go. As Ferris Bueller once said "I love driving it. It is so choice. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up".

Nope I will for sure, it is one of those uber cool things that have to be done, will probably take it over night for the extra £60, as means I can take it for an early AM drive the following day. :)

Cool.

A couple of other points. The seat is fixed, but the pedal box can be moved. This is a 20 minute job in a workshop so not something you want to be doing while hiring. This can put the damper on a second driver unless you both have similar length legs.

Given its lightweight it really doesnt use much fuel. We did over 160 miles for only £25 in unleaded.

The only word of caution I'd use for you Gibbo is that it might spoil your enjoyment of your other cars! You might well get addicted to the lightweight back-to-basics approach of this car. :D

I love these, I didn't know you could hire them

I think I'll have to have a go, I've already got the handlebar moustache and tweed to complete the look :D

Would like this very much but it would be a solo experience as I cannot think my wife would appreciate back to basics quite so much.

A slight pity that the wind shields are not more retro and fold down. Flying helmet and goggles are de rigeur.

I have been a passenger in a JAP v-twin Morgan 3 wheeler which was cool, a fellow motorcyclist owned one when I was much younger.

I deliberately omitted the images of my wife in her flying helmet. She did look cute though.

I live a mile from the Morgan factory and I've yet to rent one, highly tempted now I've seen this. I just wish that some of the V8 cars were available to rent :D
