The Most Important PC Game Ever

You could say Wolfenstein 3D or Dune. But personally I think it was Doom and C&C. They were the ones that really shifted copies, that opened the world's eyes to FPSes and RTSes.

And even to this day, they're still damn good games. :)

Oh bah fine, if you want a serious answer, to me, there isnt 1 most important PC Game ever, there's a collection. X-wing and Tie Fighter hooked me in in single player and then later X-wing vs. Tie Fighter started me off on my path of PC Game Glory online. If it wasn't for those games, I doubt i'd be as much of a gamer as I am now.

I guess WoW would have to have some sort of mention. Never played it myself but it created a massive community and fanbase, became very popular (hell, South Park had a WoW episode), and is a game that also attracted many women aswell.

That said . . . yeah it was probably Doom ;)

Goodness, there is quite a few games that could lay claim to changing gaming in a big way. most have been mentioned tho.

Flight Simulator for sure.
It has a huge history and has spawned a ton of other sims. Even real world pilots have taken it onboard as a viable tool. The add-on market is massive also, spawning tons of add-on makers (not just freeware). It is more of a traditional hobby than just a game to some. People throw thousands of $/£ at it.

Doom
The first real beginning of the 3d shooter era. Or more correctly, the first shooter game that got noticed by the masses.

Everquest
The first real big MMORPG in the vain of MMOs we see today, moreso than Ultima-online imo. It paved the way for all the WoW's etc.

original C+C created a genre and has to be high up... you could go further back and point to doom or even wolf3d, but it's tough to say whether they were important in themselves.
As another guy said, nope, dune 2 did.

Seriously though, the RPG genre owes it all to the early text only games such as The Hobbit and then Eye Of The Beholder picked up the baton.

dungeon master got me into RPG with the amiga the hobbit i kept getting thrown into the red and yellow dungeons or getting killed by bees in the woods or what ever they were :(,the text games did my head in always getting stuck or killed.

Elite.. of course.

Agree completely, even on the BBC its was 3D, although wireframe, I would say it has to be the top contender, moved into the Amiga world, it was completey 3D by that point, and Yes.... what an amazing game, still love it to this day.

Without wolf3d and doom you not be getting crysis unreal 3 quake wars and so on and never had halflife 1 and 2,fear ,unreal and stalker hehe the list goes on crysis unreal 3 quake wars and halflife 2 second ep are more likey the most wanted games on the pc at moment :) and halo 2
but games like wow and eq take up so much of your time aswell i lost 6 or 7 years to eq1

Why i say doom is that normal people who was not into games started to play doom on their work lans who never played games before i know it was liike that at my works at the time, you had grown men who didnot play games running to play doom at dinner times, before someone else get there
