Well now that I've got all the games I want running in 3440x1440, I'll do my list of what games have impressed me the most:

5) Deadspace - Can't believe a 9 year old game can look this good!
4) Evolve - Stunning with a 1070 on Max settings.
3) Halflife 2 - The biggest surprise of all, amazing in the same way Deadspace is.
2) Star Wars - Battlefront
1) Middle Earth - Shadow of Mordor

I could have listed 20 as all games, as expected look stunning. But I'm surprised at how good some of the really old games look, the true classics, the games you can complete again which you perhaps would never of gone back to if it wasn't for 3k.

Any gems that others have found?

Not so much old but The Witcher 3 looks great at 3440x1440 though you have to use a .exe fix to get the ingame cutscenes to work on the full res.

Other games I'm playing atm that work are:

Neverwinter,
Fractured Space,
Guild Wars 2,
World of Warships,
War Thunder,
Pillars of Eternity (reminds me of playing Balders Gate)

Agree with Witcher 3. I'm quite far into Pillars of Eternity, hmmm haven't re-installed it since I had to install Windows again, will check that now. Neverwinter the mmorpg?

All games :p

21.9 transforms every game into something else.

Indeed it does. Best upgrade I have made for a very long time, just blown away. £500 for my 34" iiyama model, everyone would save if they saw it in action. Using a £350 1070 seems to be a perfect match. Also, I don't have g-sync, but if you allow your geforce control panel to sort od v-sync, I get no screen tearing at all :)

Dirt Rally and Assetto Corsa are great with it due to the FoV, along with Rocket League.

GTA V and MGS:V also both great on it.

Installing Dirt Rally... want to test a driving game actually, this is my favourite one.

Agree with MGS:V, GTA V is class too, I've just over played it!

Arkham Knight looks great, flying above Gotham.

Yep, one of the first games I tested. Unfortunately my saved game has been lost or overridden, was very far into it, but never completed a Batman game and have all 3 so might complete all 3 when I'm in the mood as I do love the ambience and gameplay. Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor wacks Batman into back of the line for these types of games though, so will complete that and all DLC first.

The pixel density of 3440x1440 at 34 inches is virtually the same as 2,560 x 1,440 (1440p) at 27 inches.
I certainly have not noticed a difference in detail moving from an X34 to a 27 inch 16:9 1440p.

For me 21:9 looks squashed vertically and distended horizontally.
I do prefer 16:9.

I had a 2,560 x 1,440 monitor and I agree, it looks awful. 3k is awesome, it's as simple as that really.

I wouldn't consider any other Res now that I've moved to 21:9. My next upgrade will be the 4k equivalent at 120hz (whenever it becomes available).

As for which games have impressed me:

All Batman
GTA V
SOM

It's good to know the Batman series is superb, I want to complete the trilogy. Got GTA V installed, but haven't played it much yet. Shadow of Modor is absolutely beautiful, it really is.

Agreed, I moved to 21:9 about a year ago and couldnt even fathom going back to 16:9.

Sure its a hassle with some games, but the hassle is worth it. Total immersion.

*another note, Battle for Middle Earth...heavily modded with the aspect ratio, resolution and camera fix is still pretty darn good at that res*

Same goes, this 21:9 upgrade is like upgrading to a Voodoo graphics card for Doom 2 or something that was taxing around 1997!

Battle for Middle Earth? Will look into that.

What graphics cards you guys using? I've got a KFA 2 1070, cheapest 1070 I think at £350. Surprise surprise, Metro 2033 is the only game I cannot Max out on!

980ti SLI. No issues maxing out any game. ;)

I've never been keen on using SLI as you get problems like micro stutter or something? It would be ideal for me to add another 1070 @ Christmas instead of selling this one and getting a 1080, hate selling stuff and making a £100 loss! So SLI works great for all/most games I take it?

It was a game I enjoyed back in the day when I had my 1280 x 1024 monitor.

There are quite a few mods out there now to get it running in 21:9, and it works a dream, although I decided to take it a touch further and edit each of the maps individually to pull the camera out more. Found a guide on youtube to achieve the desired result. Works a treat.

I'm trying to find a copy, it is like £60 new on DVD @ Amazon! That could be the follow up. Never played it and have been after a good RTS since Command and Conquer, I think that was the last one...

Witcher 3 on 3440x1440 is pretty special. On my newest play through I'm about 50 hours in and find myself stopping and admiring the view every few minutes.

Only other game I played and clocked on 21.9 is Black Flag and the immersion was great.

Love Black Flag, might complete it again. Yep, started a new Witcher 3 save :)

3440x1440 is Ultrawide QHD. 3840x2160 is UHD.

This whole #K thing needs to stop because there are multiple resolutions that get tied into a single name and it's nonsensical.

Thanks for that.

Thread title needs changed... my mistake.

EDIT: I do think however that 3440 not counting as 3k is nonsensical.

It's not 3K though is it? 3K literally means 3 thousand, it's almost half way through 3 thousand.

Why you go down the #K route, multiple resolutions end up being given literally the same name and that just makes it messy.

Based on the logic people use then these resolutions would be 3K:

2880*1620

2880*1800

3000*2000

3072*1728

3200*2400

3200*1800

3440x1440

Do you see my point?

Not wanting to derail, so last post on it. What defines 4k? It must be it's highest number? 4096, otherwise it wouldn't be 4k regardless of 2160.

I'm not sure what monitors or games that support the resolutions you've just made up? It seems perfectly acceptable to call 3440x1440 3k based on 4k logic.

Rise of the Tomb Raider a sight to behold at 3440x1440 although that is quite an obvious choice.

A less obvious choice that surprised and stunned me in equal measure was Borderlands 2, man it looks so crisp. I think it's style of graphics really shows off the higher resolutions.

Exactly. That's why I think 4k got named the 3k. 1080p 1440p would both be 1k but in reality there's a vast difference in my eyes, it's beautiful. 3k. i'll try borderlands 2.

Pft, pretty much every game that I've tried has been transformed by my x34. I can't imagine going back, now. The only thing thats bugging me a little is my 980ti, it copes well enough, but I feel like I need a little more grunt to really make the most of this res.

Me too. I'm think sticking another 1070 in @ Christmas but am suspicious of usin SLi. I know there is little difference in real world performance between a 1070 and 1080(i've had one).
