The Musketeers

I thought it was absolute guff.

The script was horrible. I'm not expecting it to be in genuine 16th Century French but it was too modern for my liking.

There was no exposition. It was impossible to tell which faction was trying to do what to whom. It was just straight in, wham.

The score was OK, but the guy was basically channeling Hans Zimmer doing PotC.

I doubt I'll watch any more of it.

I liked it. :)

The only bit I will pick on and its a stupid thing to take any notice of I grant you, the bit where they found the dead Musketeers and said "They took their uniforms"... what uniforms you are all wearing leather from head to toe with no symbols or way of telling you are a musketeer?

Anyway, I did like it and will continue to watch. :)

To be fair if they had all the exposition up front you'd spoil a lot of the story which is mostly political intrigue at court. The politics and such were briefly touched upon but only bite sized portions I'm sure you'll get more exposition as it goes along but fair play to you if you don't like it off the bat.

I thought this was dire. They chewed up and spat out Dumas original plot there was no internal logic and unlike Merlin or Atlantis it had no amusing side to paper over the cracks. If it was for kids we wouldn't care but 9pm Sunday is a prime slot.

I will give it another episode but it would have to improve massively to capture my attention.

I like it, it's settling in nicely as a mild action romp, better than Da vinci's Demons in that respect, like a modern Sharpe though more stylised. In absolute terms not as good as The Borgias or GOT but still good, imho.

Before i commit to 1 hour is it in the spirit of Merlin, Atlantis and all the other crap Saturday evening time slot stuff ?

They just re-tooled that jelly mould. Predictable but a shame.

However I'm ruined by The Flashing Blade and long lost school summer holidays, so I may not be the best judge.

I think this has a bit of promise. Quite enjoyed the first 2 episodes and I did enjoy Merlin but never really bothered with Atlantis.

Entertaining and hoping they put some good twists on the source material. Will keep watching.

Why are they called Musketeers when they only ever seem to have sword fights?

Single shot pistols/muskets are difficult to reload quickly and not entirely accurate hence they only tend to shoot when it's convenient! either at the start of a fight or during at point blank range. It;'s also the reason Pirates arm themselves to the teeth.

Terrible.

The BBC should stop looking at the likes of HBO for gritty inspiration. Small fish in a big pond.

Stick to being a big fish in the pond of doing the Lacey Turner dramas, the cop shows with old fart detectives, the Sheridan Smith stories full of adultery and ruining Doctor Who.

At least they're somewhat entertaining for some people.

Hey, I liked the Sheridan Smith adultery drama.

She's pretty tidy, as well.

It's all she ever does though unless it's comedy then she plays the working class **** instead.

I can't abide adultery dramas either, almost like it makes it seem acceptable to cheat.
"If it's on telly it happens, so it's fine I'm having a fling". A little bit of hyperbole from myself there but *shrugs*.

I think it annoys me because as you say, she's pretty tidy.

It’s ok, a little silly but still entertaining and the prefect intellectual challenge for a Sunday night.

Did this get any better?

Sorry for the necro, but last post was Jan '14 when it first came out and the series continued for another 2 years. Critics suggest that it really got going a few episodes in and became one of the BBC's better productions.

Thoughts?
