I've got a server box with a few discs in it. 2x80Gb SATA Drives on the ICH5R's SATA Controller in RAID1, 2x300Gb SATA Drivers on the Promise Controller as 2 separate discs, and 1x120Gb IDE Drive.
One of the 300Gb Discs keeps just disappearing in windows. Just drops off the face of the earth until it turn the thing off, wait a while, then turn it back on.
I have a feeling it may possibly be heat releated - the drives are next to each other and have little or no cooling. Although I've had a problem with this before, and I bought a new SATA controller card and all the problems went away.
Anyone have any ideas? I installed Speedfan in the hope that it would monitor temps and let me see SMART Status, but alas it doesn't appear to support any SATA drives. Anyone got any other suggestions on that front?
