The netbook conundrum

After being pretty happy with a samsung NC 10, and loving the weight, battery life, and versatility, I'm in the market for something with a bit more oumph for work (I'm a video game developer), light gaming, multimedia, especially on the graphics front, while retaining the qualities of a netbook.

Seems to me theat the next gen of netbook is kinda 1/2 way there. They have great graphics support (Ion, 11.6'' to 12'' displays, high def), but are still stuck with cheap low-power atom processors.

There are already ion platforms available, and the 311c looks like a great prospect. I'm still pondering what edge a N330 (in the future Asus 1201A/N) got over a N270, and if an upgrade to an even better processor is possible (probably not, if the processor is surface mounted) much later on. As the rest is pretty much bang on what I need. 2 gig extra upgrade though. I've got also a window 7 and SSD drive at the ready, but I'm thinking desktop for those.

Battery life and portability is a big plus for me. Also, light gaming is appealing (Guild Wars, L4D, TF2, that sort of things). I'm wondering if a 311c is actually enough for my needs (I like the price too), and if it is worth holding back for a slightly better netbook (N330 based, more power, more power consumption).

Also, in the world of notebooks and small CULV laptops (13'' at a stretch), the ones that will have the graphical might of a 9400M, and the autonomy of a netbook (optical drive optional). Holding for such a machine in my opinion is abit of a waste of time, especially since I'd like to get the netbook-whatever for my extended christmas break.

Budget-wise, I'm comfy, but I'd like to limit to around £450-500 max. Again, battery life is important (at least 5 hours+ normal use, or no deal).

All opinions welcome.

Cheers.

TBH It sounds like you would be better off with a laptop. As I don't know how good/bad the ION chip is at gaming i cannot really comment on it.

I'm quite willing to sacrifice gaming and pure performance. I was quite impressed with the NC10 usability. I'm just wondering if a N330 is worth the wait, or if there are some notebooks with the same autonomy / feature as the ion netbooks. Graphics is nice, not just for games, but for some DX9/DX10 graphics programming. plus HD and video decoding.

Sounds like a 311c will sort me out.
