Multiple reports confirming a number of clubs have agreed to form a new European Super League.

Participants so far agreed are;

Barcelona
Real Madrid
Inter
A.C. Milan
Juve
United
City
Liverpool
Chelsea
Spurs
Arsenal

Respective fans of these clubs should be in very disappointed by this. Hopefully the different leagues kick them out.

It's hardly news at all. It's been going on for the past 10-20 years and like the every other time before it will end with UEFA giving the biggest clubs more of what they want and them agreeing to stay.

The control they want is control over other teams finances and making sure they can't upset things by spending money.

That's the plan and if this really does end up happening I'm sure they would stay in their domestic Leagues too. The alternative would cripple the Leagues.

Why would any PL team agree to allowing them to continue in the league when these teams are going to get £300m just for being members.

Ok, I think that's wishful thinking @mysticsniper. Players will follow the £ signs.

Because the value of Everton, Newcastle, Leicester, Crystal Palace etc would drop through the floor without them. Now if you believe Moshiri, Ashley, Vichai, Parish et al are all passionate supporters of their clubs and care about the integrity of the sport and don't just see their clubs as an asset then maybe they'll take the moral decision and vote against it.

They're going to push back and they're going to fight it but how this ends, who knows. The least likely outcome is these sides not competing in their domestic Leagues. It's the one outcome that suits nobody. If I were to guess, it ends with compromise all round, the biggest clubs getting a bit more of what they want.

The really interesting thing is what FIFA say and some journo's seem to be suggesting that these clubs could have had an unofficial nod from FIFA.

This has gone on and goes on at every level for years and years. I've banged on about it for the past 10 months now - we have parachute payments to protect the bottom of the PL, when project restart was being negotiated we had the smallest PL sides trying to block relegations and promotions to the PL to protect themselves, when talk of bailouts for the EFL were being discussed none of the (small) PL sides wanted to give a penny to the Championship. Everybody wants a closed shop, just only to those below them.

I think you're vastly overestimating the value of these teams and their value to football as a whole in the long term.

But you know you be happy being smacked by Real Madrid et al. again every other week and if you're still in the PL running away with it with all the new money you have.

Stories going around that the Champions League and Europa League have been "temporarily suspended" but not sure where its coming from, suspect its Twitter tosh

Not being a member of ECA technically means as a football club you don't recognise UEFA as the governing body for European football therefore they should face immediate expulsion from UEFA competitions.

Where have you read this? The ECA is not part of UEFA, it's an organisation representing clubs that is recognised by UEFA - it was formed to replace the old G14 thing.

and:

In the ECA - UEFA memorandum about the relationship between clubs represented by ECA and UEFA. If they're not a member of ECA they'd have to reach an individual agreement with UEFA.

UEFAs own Statutes also state things such as.

Article 49

UEFA shall have the sole jurisdiction to organise or abolish international competitions in Europe in which Member Associations and or their clubs participate.

Article 51

No combinations or alliances between UEFA Member Associations or between leagues or clubs affiliated, directly or indirectly to different UEFA Member Associations may be formed without the permission of UEFA.

There's also a whole section about recognising the statutes.

Article 59

Each Member Association shall include in its statutes a provision whereby it, its leagues, clubs, players and officials agree to respect at all times the Statutes, regulations and decisions of
UEFA, and to recognise the jurisdiction of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne (Switzerland), as provided in the present Statutes.

Each Member Association shall ensure that its leagues, clubs, players and officials acknowledge and accept these obligations.

Each participant in a UEFA competition shall, when registering its entry, confirm to UEFA in writing that it, its players and officials have acknowledged and accepted these obligations.
