The "New Gear/Willy Waving" thread

Get a 90mm TS mrk!

Then its a portrait lens and a TS :p

You can do things like this, much more fun than a macro lol

Not really, at 1.8 my copy of the fifty was too soft, didnt get sharp enough until 2.8 anyway plus I didnt like the bokeh.

This feels much better constructed and is sharp from 2.8 with nice bokeh, not much more than the 50 1.8 either.

I kind of have to like it as its my only lens now, its wide enough FF for me and has the other qualities I want in a lens. Maybe I can sell my X100 now, I dont mind the weight/size of the 5D2 with this on. Going to return the 50 and put the money towards an 85 1.8 I reckon.

Officially fake lol
I ran the grip from the same company for the 550 with no issues so got the same one for the 60D, grip and 2 batteries for the price of 1 genuine battery = win :)

Might as well post it here too! Loving the 50mm, I've never had a lens so sharp. Tripod is a Manfrotto 190xPROB with the 804RC2 head.

Moved my gear over to nikon so I can share lenses with my girlfriend so I've now got the following:

D300s with MB-D10 battery grip (official one, both brand new)
Nikon AF-S 28-70 F2.8 (FX) = nicknamed the beast by reviewers due to how big the thing actually is. Its built like a tank and the sharpness on it, even wide open, is nothing short of outstanding. Its just had a service on it and been fully cleaned so its like new :D
Nikon AF-S 300mm F4 (FX) = Solid metal and tac sharp wide open, already love it
Nikon AF-S 18-200 F3.5-5.6 (DX) = nice general purpose lens and fully weather sealed
Sigma 12-24 F4.5-5.6 EX DG (FX) = Barely had a look at it atm but even on a crop its very wide.

Also got an SB900 flashgun and I've been learning how the commander mode on the nikon bodies works vs the canon ST-E2 system which I'm very familiar with. Seems pretty damn straight forward though!

So far, best thing about switching is the better AF system compared to what I had (canon 5D mk ii). It's not perfect by any stretch, but it does make some things vastly easier, like wildlife for instance if you want to frame it right instead of cropping to frame it in post. Worst thing is the ISO difference, which will negate itself when I jump to a D800 when the problems are ironed out with them, probably later this year/early next year. Use to routinely shooting at 4000-6400 iso on the 5D mk ii without it even breaking a sweat, yet this struggles with anything above 1600 judging from my early use findings.

I'll put some pictures of some of the kit shortly!

I can safely say after using both systems though, that both give stunning images, regardless of all the technical garbage thrown in. Each camera body I use just makes a different type of photography easier, from better autofocus accuracy for wildlife to quickly switching between preset modes to do a completely different style of shot in one turn of a dial. Now that the 5D mk iii finally addressed what everyone whined about with the mk ii (AF), things are definitely on a level playing field now in terms of bodies anyway.

Is it by any chance the one from the rainforest (the brand is Meike IIRC)? I am looking to pick one up for my 60D too. What do you think of it?

Meike are one of the better 3rd party brands for camera equipment so it'll be a direct copy of the official one, although it'll be plastic instead of magnesium alloy. I had one for my 5D mk ii and it worked exactly the same as the BG-E6 one.

Just about to buy steadicam rig for my Glidecam (making the hybrid) a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 OS and a sennheiser G3 ENG... I think I've spent more money preparing for this wedding shoot than the bride and groom :(... But I'm a gear****, so I don't mind..

Btw, loving my peli case. The 1560 with the dividers gives you tons of room. I had lowepro 20 and 30 slingshots, the peli case has ate the contents of those two bags and there is room for more gear.. Definitely get one if you do weddings, so much easier to cart your gear, and you can stand on it if need be!! And they look great!!
