The new google maps...

What is ideal spec? I am on a recent i5 vPro laptop (docked), so hardly a bad machine. Its very laggy compared with the old version and i dont seem to be the only person who has noticed this...

YouTube appears to have just changed for me too.

Literally just refreshed and the layout has changed a little.

It finally uses the more width of the screen, rather than being in a narrow column down the centre, about time Youtube

Subscriptions page is still a single video column instead of tiles though, such a waste of page space.

Change for its own sake.

I can't see Terrain view, where's that gone?

Have they ditched Satellite View in favour of Google Earth?

Earth is satellite view?

No it isn't.

As someone who uses/used Google Maps a *lot*, zooming in really close to look for specific terrain features, "Earth" view is not even close to Satellite View.

"Earth" view is using WebGL to attempt to 3D-ify the satellite imagery. Not only can you not zoom in as far, but the transition to 3D blurs and distorts the imagery.

Not only that the the "Earth" view doesn't line up 100% properly with the 2D view.

This is not the best example in the world, but it gives you some idea...

I hate the changes.

The search box and assorted crud takes up a quarter of the screen,
and some dork made the motorways the same colour as the roads.

If the Earth zoom level was increased then this would be a fantastic tool, I can't see why this wasn't done at the time?

very grateful it exists at all though, best internet tool ever created apart from wikipedia.

I like the clean look, but dislike that they've significantly castrated it's ability to handle multi-waypoint routes. This functionality was completely missing before, and is now limited to 5 or 6 points.

Some of my old URLs which I have saved which contain details of holiday plans now give me this:

414. That’s an error.

The requested URL /maps... is too large to process. That’s all we know.

If I try and recreate the maps in the classic interface they don't allow as many waypoints as before but still significantly in excess of 5 (although the URLs did work and open in the classic view until recently).

Tried this earlier and thought it was good. Didn't bother to opt-in before.

I envy people of the future being able to look at streetview from the past (presuming they archive it all and make it available). Imagine being able to look around your town 30-40 years ago. I could spend a day doing that.
