The new MBPs

Good good, great laptop. :)

Unfortunately im having heat issues with mine, ive got XP installed and Eve-Online and after 15-20mins of gaming it will lock-up. :(

I cannot yet find a compatibly fan controller for windows so i cannot just up the fan speed to try and keep it under control. Ive upped the minimum fan speed under OSX and im hoping those settings carry across and im currently testing it...

I didnt get the mbp for playing games so as long as it doesnt crash when im using it for photos in Aperture ill be happy enough.

You shouldn't have issues with Aperture to be honest mate.

I use mine for heavy photo editing in CS3 and it only really speeds up when running crazy filters or working with massive RAW files.

(Canon EOS 1D MK II n)

How do you find the other hardware compatibility in XP?

Nice camera, under XP everything works as it should, no hardware compatibility issues at all.

Ive been trying out Aperture today at work  and it seems to handle it fine, even the 13mb RAW files that me 5D gives load quicklt without any problems... 3113 files (RAW from 1dmkII+5D) in the library and moving between the shots is just a smooth as my Macpro. :)

Now im unsure about upgrading to 4gb RAM... :) Unless ofcourse the old 2x1gb sticks could be used in my iMac, which ive a funny feeling they can.

May I ask where you got yours from? Mine were from Regent st apple store, and Meadowhall apple store , both dodgy samsungs.

I bought a 15" MacBook Pro from the Regent Street store today, and the screen also seems to have a yellow tinge towards the bottom, and is also a Samsung. The aluminium lid is also scuffed, which I noticed as soon as I took it out the packaging.

Pretty gutted to be honest, and now I have to waste my time to go back there tomorrow, and no doubt get it replaced with a refurb one. :(

Try and get them to give you an LG, no problems with mine here.

Definitely go back and get it exchanged, theyll do it no hassle if its within 2 weeks of you buying it. I dont think you can tell whether its LG or Samsung before you open the box, I ve already exchanged mine once and it turned out to be another faulty Samsung. :(

I don't think you can tell either, there's no mention of it anywhere on the outside of the box. I guess its just down to the luck of the draw of whichever LCD they took out the parts bin when it was being built.

I'll let you all know what happens tomorrow anyway. Saturday afternoon in Regent Street...going to be a nightmare. :p

Well I picked up the new one yesterday, and having used the test images above, I can't see any real difference between top and bottom, despite it still being a Samsung screen :D

They pretty much exchanged it without any quibbles, so thanks to a young woman named Josefin. :)

Using it now infact, with a Mighty Mouse and keyboard as I plan to buy an external monitor for desktop use, and it's all schweet.

Mikeyboy - Official Mac convert. :p

My profile is showing model 9C69.

I guess it's because I have the 17" LCD (no LED backlighting), but it seems like there is ZERO display problems or yellow tint :)

Ive got issues with my 17" MBP...

Under Windows it will lockup solid after about 15mins of Eve-Online, im tempted to take it back for either an exchange or refund... If this is a common issue I could just get a Coolermaster NotePalW1

Anyone got any suggestions or opinions?

Had one kernel panic and quite a few crashes when I first got it. Generally operating much better now but heat would be a huge problem without the SMCfancontroller program. Might crack it open to apply some decent thermal paste. Wireless drops out occasionally after doing an upgrade.

Apart from that, love it! So very beautiful coupled with tons of speed and a powerful OS.

Just an update, ive been playing about trying to make the MBP crash and ive been running F@H on it for 24hours solid, temps have risen to 65c but it hasnt crashed at all... So i can rule out the CPU overheating and causing my problems...

My next step is to try and load up the GPU and see if that causes lockups...

Im hoping that it wont and then I can begin looking into Drivers and DirectX issues... :)

Sounds like the drivers (XP side) are a bit flaky.

I'm betting it's the DirectX / graphics driver that's causing a problem :o

Well I don't think 60+ degC is going to be good for the rest of the machine.. is that with the fans running at 2000rpm?

Nope, thats with the fans at 5500rpm IIRC, ive used FanControl to up the base speed to 3500 and lower the thresholds to make the fans ramp up sooner... Im not sure if these settings carry over and work under Windows though.

Just got myself a laptop cooler so when it's sat on AC power/charging it's not sat directly on the desk.

Also got myself a apple wireless keyboard to for the PC and the MBP.
