The new Spotify desktop app is horrible

Seriously, what the **** do Spotify do, except release broken updates with features missing.

The desktop app has been consistently getting worse for the last two years and the newest update messes more up, with massive amounts of blank space, icons moved around for no reason, buttons being big whilst others small, etc.

It's a ****ing catastrophe. If you haven't updated, don't. Bad, bad idea.

It's crazy that you can't add a profile pic if you don't link to Facebook which i took off as i found to intrusive.

Yeah. That's retarded. I hate when programs or accounts won't let me upload my own avatar. The worst though is those that want you to use gravatar. "Oh, you want me to make another account on another site, just to upload a picture to use as an avatar for this site? I don't think so Tim."

Personally don't have a problem with Spotify. I tried out Google Play Music over a year ago (it was cheaper p/month with the exact same catalog) and I found that the development of the web player, which may I add was the only option on desktop, was a bit laggy and also effected streaming while browsing the web.

Forced me back to Spotify by being unhelpful / uninterested in fixing the issue.

TL;DR Spotify has no real competition in Europe yet.

I often find the interface quite laggy and sometimes it will play playlists etc or last played but not bring anything up in the middle bit for ages. Just installed the update so will be a day or two before I get used to it.

I haven't used Spotify much since I upgraded my phone contract and lost Premium. I tend to use the free version of Google Play Music now. I've got a good library, why not use it?

Used to use spotify until I bought some Sonos gear and got Deezer Premium+ free for a year. Light years ahead in terms of the app and also guessing what I might like based on my listening habits.

Only thing that seems to be missing for me is the ability to close this to the notification bar in Windows. Just sits in the task bar now, just need to remember to minimise the window instead of closing to notification. Caught me out a few times since updating to the latest version.

Didn't like the way the update immediately added itself to start up with windows - though atleast they then gave you the notification with the option to turn it off... which then lead me to looking at the preference sceen and with this update they've not bothered to put half the features back in that you had control of before :|

EDIT: Oh tell a (slight) lie there has been an update since that added an advanced settings button which has most of the stuff I thought was missing (though not all).

Deezer is a very good alternative and I used it for over a year, but have gone back to Spotify just for the old school dance music which Deezer is seriously lacking.

Just looked up tidalhifi.com and they seem to be in europe now. Guess there are definitely alternatives now!
