The next generation of MMORPG's

Don't hold up your hopes for Vanguard, a friend of mine was into EQ in a BIG way, he recently got in on the beta and was not very impressed.

Vanguard looks promising but I fear its going to be released to soon inside all the WoW expansion hype and just get swallowed up by it. :(

No, it's not. We won't see Vanguard until Q1 2007.

a lot of those titles listed above will slip into 07. Im looking forward to Pirates Of The Burning Sea (June 07) and Age Of Conan (Q2 07).

And further in the future Stargate Worlds, as long as it doesnt get cancelled like the series.

Next year looks good for MMO releases, I just wonder which ones will make it.

I was really looking forward to Vanguard but in the last month they have announced that it will definatly ship this winter and then shortly after have removed a lot of what they promised will be in by release....very worried its going to be rushed out now.

Aradunes updates and screenshots don't look as good as I had hoped either but we will see....the people in BETA seem to be enjoying it anyway.

"Knock WOW off it's perch" - All i can say is that it's true.
People don't neccessarily play the best games out there.
WOW is awful, yet it has a lot of people playing it (and moaning about it).
Blizzard have done a hell of a job getting so many people to play a sub-standard game, my respect goes to them over the marketing.
It certainly doen't go to them with regards the game they have created...

As far as I can tell the majority of the new MMORPG's are following much of the same system, with levels.
I need to do some reading up, but whichever MMORPG hits market first where they don't use levels and that you increase your skill by using it and are forced to use it against/on harder/higher creatures/resources as the skill goes up (a la UO) will be the first to get my money.

The level chasing games get boring quickly as everyone rushes off to get to the maximum level as quickly as possible.

Quoted for truth. Agree with pretty much everything said above.

I'm back on Asherons Call after a years break and I am enjoying it imensley (just work gets in the way) it's one of the only games to have a proper skill points system (which means more unique characters, more choices, etc) than a skill tree. Basically if you up your run you run faster and this can be seen nothing i've played since Asherons Call has come close to recreating the fun I've had on this.

Darktide was superb fun!

but do any have FPS in them, levelling and clicking button gets boring real fast. What I want is

1) call of duty meets SWG
(basicly levelling your character and equipment, but at the end of the day its just a real big fps with other things in it. With wars that win territory, factories, even planets.

2) X2 meets EVE

Tabula Rasa. The game im looking forward to been in development for 6 years I believe. Developed by the guy who created Ultima online. Looks like your CoD meets SWG, im hoping for the same thing.

Found an article on bittech here

Yep, that's the one I've been keeping my eye on, unfortunately all the new press I've seen on it said the earlier expectations where over exaggerated.

Warhammer Online - Now this is the one MMORPG if I was to pick one from the lot that im most looking forward to. Im really excited about this after watching a few videos and reading a few sites, to some it looks like a copy of WoW visually (graphics wise and UI),

Warcraft itself was pretty much based on the Warhammer world, artwork and imagery in the first instance. :)

Pulled off correctly, Warhammer Online could be absolutely awesome.
