Yep, I do believe that is the one I used, should update just fine to the latest firmware :)

On a side note, I was pleasantly surprised that these Black E71s don't have the Orange logo stamped on the casing somewhere!

Done it now and it's great, very happy :)

I'd never noticed the lack of Orange logos before, well spotted!

Can this be used as a car sat nav? I'm in need of a sat nav, but also have my upgrade coming up.
Many thanks.
Yep. I've tried it a few times on known simple routes, but without a car phone holder, so couldn't look at screen while moving (mainly just listened to instructions). My over all evaluation of it is good though. In some ways I like it more than my TomTom ONE, but would have to try with a car holder to get a full impression. The map and display looks much nicer and more refined than TomTom. GPS finds initial fix much faster than TomTom (probably because of initial fixes from triangulating tower signals) and receiving uptodate satellite positions via data.

Note that you have to subscribe annually to have it fully functional as a car sat nav. Mine came with free first year subsciption. I can't remember what the fee is.

It has "walking mode" as well.

I just used the GPS (using Nokia Maps) for the first time in London and it worked great. I used it with an E71 car phone holder which sticks to the windscreen like a normal sat nav device would. Really please with the way it performed :)

Download googlemaps and use that instead, it's even better :)

Well I took the plunge on Friday and opted for one of these and came from using a WinMo based Tytn II since they were released a few years ago.

I managed to get the free Phone + 600 mins + 250 txts + Internet bundle on 12 month contract for £30 p/m on upgrade from my local Voda shop, also got a Car Charger and 8gb card thrown in for nowt as well. Didnt think that was a bad deal tbh.

Have to say everything about this phones oozes quality. The feel of it is superb, OS is very quick and after a charge up on Friday night its still showing full now. My Tytn II was needing a charge every other day.

Just got to get my head around this Symbian signed thing and then all should be good.

Download manager

Been looking into a download manager application because the standard Nokia functionality sucks i.e. you can't pause a download etc or manage them very well.

I came across SmartGET. It looks really good in theory, but doesn’t integrate with your web browser. Consequently, you have to manually type in the download link. It’s a shame you cant just copy the link from your web browser and paste it in or even better still, click on the link and it automatically start SmartGET.

Just got my E71 today on t-mobile flex-t. Have installed mobitubia, Opera, Nokia email, Iplayer and a few songs. Definitely feels different to my iphone 2g, getting back into symbian again. Screen isn't a patch on the iphone but I knew that when I ordered it. HSDPA performance is very good and making a better use of the free web n walk on my account than the 14k average download speed on my Iphone's gprs.

Going to get googlemaps installed next.

Getting more and more impressed by this phone everyday. Does the battery ever run out?

I got it on Friday of last week and after the intial charge on that day its getting its 2nd one tonight..

Top notch..!!

Just getting mine tweaked up.
Have got installed Nokia Mail, Googlemaps, Twibble, Opera, iPlayer, Mobitubia, Fring.

I quite like Nokia mail, gmail over imap is pretty instantaneous delivery, POP3 takes about 10mins.

Anyone recommend any other good apps?

I downloaded version 1 from a link off a symbian forum, followed the instructions they provided and all works well over my cisco wifi network. I just googled iplayer on the E71 and it provided some good information. If you need the iplayer widget, just email me at my trust address and I will forward you the file.
