Does anyone know how to disable the phone from using WAP/GRPS if you get disconnected from WLAN?

I think it'd depend on what program you're using, you might have to set that in there, though usually they aren't that sophisticated, but you can tell it to ask you which connection to use first, which also kicks in when you've lost the current one.

Will updating the firmware on my E71 get rid of the tmobile startup screen?

Depends what you're updating to. If you just run an update and there's a new version supplied by tmobile, no, but if you change the product code to a generic one and then update, yes, I think it will.

Has anyone flashed their T Mobile E71 to a generic firmware?
Any problems?
I don't seem to have predictive text at the moment and I'd like it and my GPS seems to take ages.

Predictive text needs turning on. when writing a text hold down the function key (bottom left hand corner) and press the spacebar, the option to turn it on should appear!

I cant stand it personally, having a qwerty is easy enough.

Just put the latest firmware on my tmobile branded E71 and it's now like a completely different phone. Much more responsive and no more annoying 200 decibel tmob startup tone.

I didn't get a case with mine (old owner lost it) - what does it look like? Just wondering if the "genuine" ones on the bay are actually genuine.

Does anyone know if Tom Tom or Garmin software will run on the E71? I've searched both their sites and am still none the wiser yet various net postings say it's possible? I've been dicked around by Google maps for the last time and want to shell out on GPS software with voice commands.

I know you can subscribe to Ovi maps now, which I've found to be pretty good. not sure how the price works out compared to the garmin one though, i know it has a good reputation. If it helps, the E71 runs Symbian S60 3rd ed with feature pack 1.

I have the Garmin Mobile XT satnav on my E71 - works really well. A friend from work has the Navigon MobileNavigator 7 on his Windows Mobile HTC Touch HD and it looks fantastic as it shows you which lanes to be in at turnings with 3D view etc. Navigon also have a version for the E71 but may not look as good

Has anyone replaced the cover/keypad on theirs? I've had mine nearly a year and have recently lost the function key, which is a pita. I also want a nice new cover on for when I sell it.

Can anyone explain how the shift key works before I throw the thing under a bus? The amount of time I waste just trying to get it type the flipping case I want is unreal.

OK, so I got an SMS today saying there was a new firmware version available, but when I go to the nokia site, it says the latest for E71 is 300.21.012, which is the same as what I have had installed since I debranded it many months ago now.

Anyone else get this or an update?

i never got this... i havent received any sms about any firmwares at all

im using 100.07.76... it says 08-06-2009 RM-346 Nokia E71-1 (241.02)
how do i upgrade it? :S I'm on three but I've already unlocked my phone to work on all networks

You need to debrand it too. See my earlier post on this thread for some more information. The updated software is a whole lot better, but make sure you've backed up everything you need first.

ok i debranded it, im just updating it now... did you know that apparently three released the V3 firmware recently? like very recently? like i think within the past few days...

but that was just as nokia released V4! so right now apparently the phone is downloading 400.21.013... lets see how this goes!

another question actually... are there like asian codes that i can flash it with? like that will enable me to use languages such as chinese or hebrew or arabic? or is it just the euro code?
