Ardbeg!

When I was born my granddad bought me a Portuguese vintage port.
supposed to give it to me when I was 18. however it only made it to me last xmas when i was 27. Looking for a opportunity to open it and for the first time in many years we had a family get together in a rented hall. Seemed a great time to share. I have around half a bottle left. It really is the bee's knees..
decanted a few days ago. Once I broke the seal the cork was actually fairly lose and past its best, as soon as I offered it a cork screw it popped straight into the bottle
1985 vintage port
Question, was that re bottled or did they print 'Vintage Port' on a new bottle in 1985?
I think it was printed vintage port when bottled in 1985. IT will be to do with something they used being vintage I suppose.
Vintage: Made from the very best grapes of a single year, the declaration of a vintage is a sign of an outstanding harvest. The wines are kept for just two years in wood and then bottled unfiltered. Great vintages can be kept for years, even decades.

They would have printed it when bottled then yes. It is unlikely to have been bottled until 1987 though. Borges isn't seen much in the UK so I can't be totally certain on that.
My guess is that the cork almost falling out means that the bottle was stored standing up. If you keep it on its side the liquid will keep it moist and it won't dry out. Generally you'll get a bit of seepage op the cork over time doing this but not too bad if the temperature it's stored in is correct.
I would look to consume the remaining half over the next couple of weeks as it will deteriorate.
I had a delicious bottle of '77 Grahams over Christmas and used a Butler's friend to open it rather than a corkscrew. If using a corkscrew you want a really long helix for an old cork. It didn't last more than the day.
My granddad got it the year I was born when on a trip to Portugal its a genuine 85, I am not sure how it was stored though I think it was actually lying on its side for a big chunk of its life in my granddads wine garage lol.. (hes a huge collector) Since I have had it, I have stored it up right.
