The **Now Drinking** Thread

A Bolshoi Punch cocktail :)

Ice cold botthe of Westons.

I have a bottle of Thatchers Vintage 8.3% 500ml. I asked the Mrs for a bottle of Katy 7.5% 500ml and they had an empty shelf so one of each the others appeared :D

I have to say Vintage actually tastes pretty decent. Not as dry as Katy (the favourite cider) but thankfully doesn't have sweet taste. Recommended :)

It's Thursday ... so that means a 'free' night in terms of food and drink. I normally don't have an alcoholic drink... so this 8.3% is going to have me plastered by the time the bangers and home made chips are ready (now).

I do like a Katy, but the oak barrel ageing in Vintage (and Westons Vintage) just adds a little depth. It is so addictive but one must be careful.

I am half Finnish and you can now buy Westons over there, but due to their laws around strength, it is about 7 Euros a bottle!

I have got into this habit (I was out there 2 weeks ago) of picking up 8 bottles when I land, then me and my cousnins and uncles go to watch the WRC Finnish Rally and I give them all one bottle to start the days drinking. It always gets messy as they forget the power of good English cider. :D

Last night because I had the bottle in the fridge - Thatchers Rascal 4.6% is sweet, ok but perhaps a little too sweet for me.

Booze has been climbing a little recently culminating with a week off work. Told myself I’d knock it on the head again only for Gross and Rivington to do a collab NEIPA. One of my favourite UK breweries (with an amazing taproom if anyone is around Horwich) and one of the better Spanish breweries combining to make my favourite beer style.

Massively punchy and not “that” high in abv.

Couldn’t help but order some and seems I’m the first to rate it on Untapped!

Two variations of the same drink, the top one is the Urbane Restorative cocktail (it had a dash of bitters in it, I forgot to add it for the pic) and the bottom was the Bourbon Renewal cocktail. Both were pretty good :)

How did they vary? Just different ratios?

I’ve always wanted a really well stocked bar for cocktails but I manage to resist as feel it’s a dangerous road to go down.

I do keep meaning to pick up some 0% gin for Negronis. I like a big drink so double shots of everything creates a pretty high alcohol and calorie intake per round.

Similar for 0% vodka for a martini too. Although not sure how well that would work as you’re basically then just drinking diluted dry vermouth!

The top cocktail used Scotch whiskey and the bottom one used Bourbon. The other ingredients were the same.

if your interested in cocktail making I would recommend starting off small like I did. Just buy a few bottles, like vodka, gin, tequila and some mixers. Don't splurge on expensive brands as the complex flavours can be lost in a cocktail. You can find a lot of bargains online if you shop around.
