The Nvidia Hopper thread

LADM approach to optimise cache hits on MCM implementations

https://mobile.twitter.com/Underfox3/status/1317821032829493248

"Notice: Any similarity between this work and the work presented by Nvidia in 2018, IS NOT a mere coincidence. In this way, Nvidia will most likely finally be able to implement its MCM GPUs very soon."

Accidental discovery for your speculative needs.

How soon? Depends on Big Navi :D

So you decided against getting a 3070 at least? Not looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077? How about a big Navi GPU? :)

Nope, the 3070 with 8GB is a no-no, with 16GB it depends on the price (and it would have to be less than the £650 I'd catered for the 3080, very unlikely), and I've given up on a 3080, unless (and I can't see it happening) it comes back down to its RRP of £650.

Cyberpunk I will probably wait until the GOTY edition comes out, but that's not written in stone.

I'll run it at 2560x1080 if I get it before an upgrade.

So Hoppit it is.

They are also talking about a 7nm refresh down the line.. with moar ram, lower power, better clocks, moar cores

Yeh, I said in another thread I will wait and see what is around in six or so months time.

My 1070 is still performing great so I'm in no particular rush.

I did get caught up in Jacket Man's hype and ordered an Asus Tuf 3080 on OCUK @ RRP but it never went through, and I'm not paying more, I absolutely refuse.

Unlucky.

I agree with you, I also feel more than RRP is too much for me. If the 3070 16Gb version was to hit £550 that would be tempting, though I feel it should be £499. It just might if AMD do as well as we are hoping.

Curious to see if they keep getting wider and fatter as with Ampere. The 3090 is still not a 4k 60 rt card so I'm more excited for what's next because of it.
Playing through Metro Exodus for the first time now and with rtgi on, I'm loving it and in this case 1080p/1440p is fine because the game isn't properly set-up for 4K (textures, geometry etc) but going forward it's definitely going to change and I really want those awesome RT effects at 4K in future games.

Hopefully the renewed competition from AMD will encourage Nvidia to improve. Surely they've seen what has happened to Intel. A die-shrink to 7nm seems obvious but the benefits will be modest so if they want to retake the crown then they will have to pull the stops out.
