Hello - first time poster, but I've been using your excellent forum as a font of knowledge for a while now.

Basically I'm looking to build a PC that is a step up from the mediocre laptop I'm currently using. Me and the missus tend to watch TV together whilst on our respective laptops, but I reckon as I'm always sat in the same place portability isn't an issue so I could build myself I little PC as a step up in power from the laptop. I'll rig myself a monitor stand so I can watch TV, chat to the missus and surf the web/play a game at the same time - multitasking ahoy!

I don't want to be on the bleeding edge of PC gaming but would like to play the odd modern game (low res / settings is fine). Noise is an issue as loud fans will get me in to trouble with the missus. However, I could potentially hide it under the stairs and run an HDMI cable into the lounge.

Cost wise I'm looking at £350 max (not inc monitor). I have a 500w PSU and case I can reuse, but I will need OS. I also want a 120gb SSD (but don't need to budget for a HDD as I'll get one after Xmas)

I was planning on basing it round the amd a10-5800k as I figured the APU would mean one less fan and the benchmarks seem to imply it will deal with games ok. However, I've read compelling arguments that I'd be better with an old Pentium G850 and a HD 7750, upgrading at a later date. But won't the G850 really bottleneck modern games?

I would really appreciate your advice.

tldr; £350 budget for basic PC and low end graphics settings on modernish games

Thanks
