The OcUK distributed computing team needs YOU!

Apparently Computation is suspended - And i haven't told it to stop, and it doesn't seem to want to do anything. Any ideas? :p

I'd guess at around 30MB/day/core, but that is only a very rough guess so has a big margin of error (if you want to be really cautious, double it).

If that's a problem, access your account page at Rosetta@home, go to Rosetta@home preferences, edit the preferences and change the 'Target CPU run time' setting. For example, selecting '12 hours' would reduce the bandwidth requirements by 75%.

I worked out from 60mb/day/core I'd be using 7GB with my quad, not good cos I have 40GB limit, turned it down to 20% cpu usage so that should be 1 or 2GB, that'll be fine, pc on 24/7 so 20% should still crunch enough

Im getting 3 units done in just less than 3 hours

EDIT: Can you have 2 computers doing this for the same username?

Yep, just enter the same login details in the client and on the account page it will show your two machines.

excellent, have completed 1100 points in 24 hrs for the cause. I see we're making more than them now! :) (I remember why I used to do SETI before boinc now too!)

Well i use a download monitor, and when it was at the stage "downloading work" or whatever, i used up 10MB in no time - so im not sure :(

I only get 15GB for 3 PCs (one is a very light user, the other two are me and my bro)

OK, your best option for absolute minimum bandwidth usage and maximum points is to set it to as much CPU as you're comfortable with (I have my Q6600 set to 75% which leaves a core free for MediaPortal), and then set it to process workunits for 24 hours each. Absolute worst case that'll be 1GB/month, and probably closer to 600MB/month.

PS - you always get a bigger download hit the first time you connect as it has to download all the software. After that, it'll only download that again if there's an update, which usually happens once a month or less.

probably already answered but im not going to read every post...

what have you actually found, if anything, from all of this?

I'd just like to say a massive

Thank You

From the bottom graph, it's evident that a few people have drifted away, and that isn't unexpected. However, we're still achieving more than double the output we were before this thread started.

If you're thinking of switching away yourself, then that's your right, and we all thank you again for your contribution, however big or small. However, before you do put back to port, please remember those pesky pirates still have their fleet, and they still want our booty, so watch out behind...
