*** The official 2023 and 2024 Mac mini thread (it has the M2 chip, the M4 chip and everything!) ***

I keep ummming on whether to get an M4 to replace one of my 2018 Mini's (64GB, 1TB, 10Gb); sure it'll be a bit snappier but £2300 though

It will absolutely kill your 2018 mac mini if you give it vaguely similar specs. Question is whether what you are using it for is actually slow on the old one.

My keyboard, 2tb nvme, nvme enclosure and usb c hub just arrived so getting the MMM4 setup. I’m glad I bought a cheap tide me over usb c hub as I don’t like it, it ruins the aesthetic (my god, what have I become). I’m hoping some sort of stackable dock to come out for it eventually.

Obligatory first post from my Mac Mini M4.

Even though I did have an M1 MacBook Air, I didn't use it too much as I don't really like laptops (I wanted to see what macOS was like), I am quite lost when it comes to macOS so I think it'll be quite a long setup as it'll be my main PC.

This is cool! If you have a 3d printer

What is the use case for having 10gb ethernet out of interest?

It's quite niche to be fair. Mostly aimed towards the media guys wanting to move files about quickly to and from a local file server. I've gone down the 10Gb route as my home network does have a 10Gb core, my main file servers are 10Gb connected and my switch in my cave had a spare SFP+ slot so I've dropped an RJ45 adaptor in to get the 10Gb to my mini.

This has meant that rather than sticking my spare 1TB nvme into an enclosure, I've dropped it into the spare slot in my unraid box and shared it on the network so it's available and relatively quickly. Likely not going to be as fast as the enclosures however it does mean both my mba and mini can access it should I want to and it hasn't cost me any more money as I've already sank the cash into the network.

I went and looked at the new mini but think I will go to studio next time even if it's just for the extra ports. I use one USB C for my monitor so I can use the functionality of the hub on the monitor and don't see the point of buying fast SSD's as externals if I'm going to be plugged into a dock slowing down the transfer speeds. I tried the caldigit ones and was disappointed when I speed tested them.

Can't see it for most users.

I had a quick nosey at upgrading my network a while ago but it would cost me a fortune and just can't see that id benefit that much apart from slightly quicker transfers to my backup server.

More future proofing as well, these machines will last years.

Damn Google and their cookies....this pops up in my YouTube recommends.

Its a shame he doesn't know how to use his Bambu printers correctly, how rough that case looks.

I have a Bambu X1C and Bambu A1 here and never had results like that, the ironing on top of the case is shocking.

If anyone wants one of those cases I could print one off for you.

Cheers All

That would be awesome.

The case looks funky, but I couldn't watch all of that video - the way the guy talks makes me want to put my head through some plasterboard. lol

I'm going to be absolutely fascinated to see what the accessories for the M4 look like - I'm holding off on buying one for the moment to see if any enterprising spirit starts offering the box with the mod already applied.

Thank you, it's not just me then. I hate his voice with a passion.
