** The Official ASUS P5N-E SLI & Ultra 650i Thread **

i find my pc freezes up occosionaly for a second before continuing regardless of fps or how resource hungry the game is but that could be anything.

Yes I get this problem, it even happens in normal windows usage like loading up explorer etc, randomly it will appear to stall for a second or even half a second, and I cant reproduce the problem, it just seems to happen when it feels like it.

But I am running an e4300 @ 3.2 ghz. Even at 3ghz it would do the same.

Im not entirely sure what it is but it feels like there is a bandwidth problem between the north and south bridge (just a complete guess here I am no expert).

I thought it was specific to me as I couldnt find anyone else having the same problem, but now that you have it also, perhaps someone else out there does and perhaps someone knows how to fix it?

ok kind of glad to hear that problem isn't directly related to having a q9450 in this board, would like a solution though. Is it sometimes normal that boards can be unstable with the ram clocked higher than the front side bus? ie 800 mhz ram at 1333 fsb

Try adjusting the LDT if you think there is a lack of bandwidth between NB and SB. It defaults to 5x, but 4x or 6x may be better in this case. I can't remember how to work it out though, so give it a try and please report back any findings.

I would echo the comments above about this board being 2 years old. You can't expect miracles from a BIOS update if the board hardware isn't up to it. And the board wasn't ever really designed to run low voltage 1333MHz CPUs all day long.

Funny you mention LDT because my overclock is unstable if I keep that at default - it is more stable at 4x and is the most stable at 3x. I have read though that the bandwidth is whatever this number is i.e. 5x multiplied by the bus speed which at default would have been 200. So some say to keep the total to 1000. If I go above about 1400 then I start to get instability even whilst copying files between hard drives i.e. the PC would just reboot.

At the moment my bus speed is 356 and LDT is 3x, so that equals 1068. Is there a possibility that this is not enough bandwidth for a 3.2 ghz dual core and so the cpu has to stall and wait for 'traffic' to clear?

I am going to put in an e5200 soon as it has a higher multiplier so I dont need such a huge overclock to get to my target of 3.2-3.4 ghz. So hopefully when I do so I can put the LDT back up and see if that helps.

ok thanks for the advice, im not sure i understand exactly how ldt works so if its not to surpass 1000 does it need to be at 3 because it relates to the fsb at 333 so 333x3 =999? mine is at 5 a t the moment which wuld mean to much but xep seems to maybe have to little so funny how our problem seems to be the same

You could probably put ldt on 2 and not notice the difference. Its for memory bandwidth tests and superpi, most other things would not be so reliant if i remember rightly

ok the more i read up on ldt the more i dont get it. just what exactly is htt? is it the same as fsb. it cant supass 1000 with the ldt multiplier but i dont know what the htt value is. is it 333 like the fsb? i cant find any htt setting in my bios or my motherboard manual. thanks.

Thought i'd give this a bump instead of starting a new thread.

Has anyone managed to get this board working with 8GB of RAM? or know anyone who has?

Two of my sticks died and im thinking about upgrading to 8, but i have a feeling filling all 4 slots might give me the same problems as 4GB did.

Is runnning 4 sticks of ram alright in this mobo? Wondering wheather to get another 2 sticks. Running Xp aswell.

Sound, think i'll pick myself up a nice 2gb OCZ set of ram. Cant go wrong for £20, considering i paid £150 for the same set 15 months ago.

..us technology freaks eh! :p

Just installed the 1301 bios and cant get into bios manager now! It just hangs!

Should i reset the cmos or?

Bump...
Who here is still running this motherboard? And for anyone who has modified the cooling on the Northbridge post up some pics? Would be much appreciated. *looks through 75 pages of posts*
Mates got an old setup that needs forced into the present day until a future path is made clear. (When is i5 out again? :D )
