Finally got round to doing a proper Orthos run on my setup, cba doing a 12h as I don't sleep that long. :p I'll do a 12h run when I work a 12h shift next. :)

Nice, thats around where I am just now with my E6300, orthos has run no probs for 2 1/2 hours, but i'll let it go for longer tomorrow while I'm at work, either that or next week sometime.

What setup are you running there by the way? What voltages are you putting through the northbridge and your ram? I take it thats running in unlinked mode, did you find that you needed to up the frequency on the ram too to get it stable? Cheers!

It still doesnt like going into Hibernate. Formatted drive and reinstalled, same problem... Any more suggestions?

I never use it, but just want to make sure the motherboard isnt faulty or something.

I've an ACF-7 with a HR-05 on the NB. I'm putting 1.7xx through the NB and, 2.59v going through the memory, the OCZ spec ops is rated to 2.2 +-5% so just within the voltage range.
I didn't touch the RAM until I'd sorted out the CPU, left everything on auto and it seemed to be be ok.

EDIT: Yes, RAM is running in unlinked mode.

Might be a long shot, but I had loads of problems when I was trying to shut down my PC; it would just hang on the shutting down screen.

One time, I unplugged my external DVD-RW drive, and just like that, it shut down.

I know its a different situation to what your in, but you might want to make sure your shutting down with minimal devices connected.

Hope this help,

JP

It shuts down fine, it just wont go into Hibernate... I only noticed because the the "power" button in the start menu was set to hibernate.

When I select hibernate the screen goes black for maybe 30 seconds and the system speaker lets off a long continuous beep, only way to shut PC off and boot again is to turn off the PSU.

When I turn it on i get a warning that the previous boot fails and when i continue windows comes out of hibernation.

Im using Vista. I dont have any devices connected via USB apart from the wireless keyboard and mouse.

I take it no one else is having this problem... Could it be related to Vista, or maybe because I have a old(ish) PCI card connected, Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS sound card.

Edit

Removing sound card didnt make much difference.

Also tried changing the ACPI settings in the bios from S1&S3 to S1 and then to S3 but same thing. I just want to try and elminate a faulty mobo...

Hmmm. I am starting to think some of the issues I am having are with the BIOS. With my overclocked settings, I have now 1225. Half the time the board crashes RIGHT when the desktop icons appear, and then goes back to the POST screen.

Its NOT the ram, I tried running that at 400MHZ and 600MHZ. Same thing.

I tried dropping the CPU multi to 7 or 8, same thing. I EVEN got my "noisy" corsair out, same thing.

I tried the ram in ALL of the ram slots (including trying each stick on its own). I am thinking the BIOS is not liking something, because the second I am in windows, whatever settings I have, it is stable as a rock.

Using the ASUS Update utility, it says I have version 202, which was released 22/11/2006 apparently.

Could updating do the trick? this is driving me mad.

*EDIT* as a weird note, it is strange how some settings are more likely to work than others. 1100 seems to not like to work, but 1150 doesnt mind. 1050 is less likely to work than 1066. Odd :/

*EDIT 2*

Strangely, sometimes the sound doesnt work either. This has happened twice now. If I unplug the board, clear CMOS, the sound comes back. It seems to be tied to various things in the BIOS options that I chose. I really think the BIOS I have is acting up :/

Well, all the early overclocks were done using 0202. 0307 is supposedly a disaster area and I think the latest BIOS is 0401.

The fact that you don't appear to be able to get any sort of a decent overclock would seem to suggest that something is very wrong somewhere in your settings or you have an exceptionally poor overclocking CPU.

I suppose if you update the BIOS to 0401 it will force you to reset the BIOS so any 'incorrect' setting you may have accidentally made will be reset.

It's very, very odd.

The thing is, would it really be a poor overclocking CPU if I still have the problems when I am running with a low multi of 7 or 8 for example?

Maybe it is heat related, for example the northbridge does feel rather warm.

I really dont think any setting I have is wrong, it just seems that the board works with something one minute, then doesnt the next. Once I have the overclock "working" it seems fine mostly, only have a problem if I go back in and screw with some more settings.

For example, if I have 1225 working, then I think "hmmm, I will try 1275" and it doesnt boot, then it is a pain to get the 1225 working again. Once it boots in to windows completely though (as in, there are the icons and so forth) everything is fine and dandy!

Hmmm, its weird.

Well, I flashed.

I am now running 401, and it seems a little more stable with overclocks.

I actually managed to get it to boot to the BIOS screen with 1325, but it mentioned "press tab to show error messages" and wouldn't let me proceed any further.

I have noticed something though. Lets say I go with say, 1225x800MHZ ram (with manually entering the numbers). Nope, it dont load. If I go with 1225x817 though, it will load. I think it is that the "actual" ram number needs to be kept just above 800, if it dips below 800, it don't work.

Really, really, really odd.

I just noticed another odd thing with the motherboard apart from it not wanting to hibernate. The onboard LED is always on... I have to acutally disconnect the power supply before it will go off. Even turning the switch on the power supply off, the light stays on. Has to be completely disconnected...

YES! YES! YES! YES! YES!

Result.

I SEEM to have it running better now. I nudged the voltage up, and swapped in my corsair PSU again. I am now using the Yellow Slots to, since they actually seem to work better.

Right, so far, I am at 3.038GHZ.

CPU-Z shows:

Core Speed: 3037.5
Multiplier x9.0
Bus Speed: 337.5
Rated FSB: 1350.0
Memory: 405.0
FSB DRAM 5.6

I will leave it there for a while, and test a few things on it see if it is stable. 3GHZ was what I was aiming for. I think this sucker could got a bit higher with better cooling (still using the RETAIL H/S fan).

What psu is that.

I switch my psu off and the light is gone, no power is passed by the psu when the switch on its back is off.

Its normal for it to stay on otherwise as some circuits can be live still so its a good reminder imo

It's an Antec True Power trio. That wouldnt indicate a dodgy PSU would it?

There is also a faint and um, dull?, hum that comes and goes. I cant tell where it's comming from or if its vibration or what.

I have got a spare one but its only 450W and I have a 8800GTX in the system. Could the PSU handle it?

Edit

It's only a 20 pin power suply, the motherboard has 24 pins.

Here is something else if anyone can help. I started up Company of Heroes and started to hear a higher pitched crackling like buzzing sound... Doesnt sound very healthy.

Ive taken it to bits and am about to build it again. I then noticed this on the PSU power connector and wasnt sure if it was normal...

Should there be a pin missing there?

Thanks
