It’s perception I guess and depends how you personally perceive a fighter.

He surprised me he did better than I thought but this is the second crack he’s had now, home advantage as well both against aging fighters.
I've never been sold on Yarde but he impressed today. He was up against a genuine elite fighter and pushed him all the way. He's not elite but he's clearly not far below and you wouldn't be surprised if he picked up a world title in time. Beterbiev won't be around forever.

only disappointment i had in yarde is that when biev was throwing heavy shots at yarde in the corners yarde didnt spin out of the corner, he spent too long just leaning against the corner

Only he will know why he looked at his corner so long. To me it's something along the lines of looking to the corner for help, as in "WTF do I do"?

How the hell was Yarde up on two cards? I'd say at worst it was a draw but 'biev landed the cleaner shots and looked more in control. Isn't it also up to the challenger to put it on the title holder, I know he did to some extent, but not enough to be winning it in my eyes.

Oh yeah, I forgot, it was a Warren show...

He can certainly pick up one of the belts if they become vacant it just depends if he gets the right fight.

Groves failed numerous times but eventually picked up a belt.

Haha, pull the other one. He's weary of Yarde's power.

Yeah, so he was holding back, waiting for his opportunity. Normally he's quite gung ho! I guess age is a factor also, he didn't want to gas out. There were a couple of rounds where 'biev turned it on in the last 20 seconds or so, those really set up the finish IMO.

He’s domestic level really. How does he do against Callum Smith.
What has Callum smith achieved at light heavy that would make you suggest Yarde has tonnes of difficulty with him?

This is the same Smith who got battered pillar to post by Canelo who was coming up in weight to fight him. Now I'm not suggesting yarde is even a fraction as good as Canelo but I'd say right now, he's the best of the UK LHW

1. Yarde
2. Richards (yes he lost to buatsi in a close fight but he did well against Bivol)
3 Smith
4. Buatsi
5. ??? Would've said Johnson but he retired

We're all going to have different definitions of elite and world level but lets put it this way, other than Bivol and Beterbiev, is there another fighter in this division who you could say with any confidence is ahead of Yarde right now. At best the others are unproven at the highest level or have done worse than Yarde when they've stepped up to the highest level.

It's the trainers responsibility to take care of their boxer. You just know that 'biev bangs hard (I mean you could hear the shots during the fight) it makes sense to take the out of the ring if they're not with it.

@Calpol can you name many better fights that have taken place recently?
Taylor Serrano was pretty good, Wood / Conlon, Fury Wilder 3.
That fight was decent and Yarde had a big heart but I don't think he has the brain or skills to really mix it at the top level. I just feel it's a bit over the top to "big him up" too much on what we've seen. At world level he's lost to two aging pro's and it's not like he's 25 and inexperienced. Don't get me wrong I think he did well but a loss is loss and I don't think Beterbiev was ever on the brink.
