Well it isn't a professional fight so who knows what will happen. They might say it is but I've never known a pro heavy weight fight have a weight limit and go for 8 rounds.

Jake Paul could actually die in the ring, that’s why I think it gets cancelled a couple of weeks before they are due to fight

Paul has not been tested properly by boxing his way up against increasingly better opponents over hundreds of rounds. Jake Paul could be susceptible to brain injuries that in a typical career would have become apparent either by the fighter or his in case of a pro, his team. Also Jake Paul isn’t even a natural cruiser, never mind heavyweight, he can’t box for toffee or bite down on his gum shield and fight.

Jake Paul will be an embarrassment on Anthony Joshua’s record. TBH, I be embarrassed having Paul on mine.

Bet you’d be a lot less embarrassed if you were getting fifty million quid though!
Not if you already have hundreds of millions... If he was retired I could understand it but he's still active, although I guess he is finished at the top level.

Money always talks and in prize fighting you have to take all the money whilst you can. He's not going to get paydays as big as this unless Fury decides to fight him.

It's a joke of a fight but for AJ it makes sense. You'd be daft to turn down a payday like this because other people think it's embarrassing. When all is said and done in 20/30 years, if you were in his shoes, would you rather 'respect' from the same people that laugh at you for falling on your face against Dubois or having an extra 50m in the bank for fighting a novice.

I know what I'd be picking

Edit: Just to add - I'm not supporting or looking forward to this fight. I'd much rather he fight a contemporary or finally have the Fury fight. But I completely understand why he would take this fight and if I was in his shoes I'd be taking it too.

Incredibly rich people not giving a **** about anything other than the ever increasing number in their bank accounts is why everything is ******* awful these days. I'd like to think I'd easily turn down this payday for sake of the integrity of the sport that made me this rich in the first place but clearly AJ couldn't. It's not as if it's this fight or nothing either, I'm sure he has plenty of 8 figure paydays on the cards from boxers worth a damn but greed rules the world.

He’s have done better if he didn’t fight elite competition bookended with your local plumber and bin man.

He’s been badly managed for someone with so much athletic ability

I honestly don’t see why people can’t see what it is. It’s a cash grab in a sport known as prize fighting. It’s like when Oscar said Mayweather only fights for the money and his rebuttal was “You dummy. I’m a prize fighter. That’s what I’m supposed to fight for, a prize”.

It’s easy as hell for us in the free seats to say we would turn down that level of wealth if it was offered to us but you’re either a liar or a fool. Even the pro fighters that are saying they would would be chomping at the bit to get all of their career earnings in one fight against someone who isn’t even a regional level boxer.

If this guy was called Paul Jake’s and northern champion and he got offered this amount of cash people wouldn’t be as confused by it.

AJ himself in one interview said he is a prize fighter.

I can't stand the nonsense of Jake Paul.

But I will be watching this one as I can't see anything other than him getting KO'd.

Never "nice" to wish harm on another, but my gosh he does my head in.

BBC news this AM stated that AJ will walk away with £40 Million. That's a good night's work for anyone tbh.

Who isn't saying that it's a cash grab? That's exactly what it is, but it's hardly something to celebrate or condone. Perhaps we have different principles.

It's an embarrassing show of greed and stupidity (the idiots that pay for it).

They're all prize fighters.

I think if you watch it you have no right to moan about the circus that is modern boxing.

There’s nothing about principles here. It’s boxing. It’s entertainment and then it’s sport. Which other sports can you name where top tier competition can easily never face one another under the excuse of ‘politics’. All of the professional sanctioning bodies are corrupt and it seems the amateurs aren’t far from the same tree as that’s partly the reason the iocc kicked them out.

I’ve said I don’t support it and I won’t go out of my way to watch it *but* I can still appreciate why a prize fighter would go for the easy money with barely, if any, risk to their health than they would go for a challenging fight for half the money for what? Respect from people who like the sport.

Look at how ‘respect’ is looking after the precious greats. You have people like Hitman Hearns needing to sell his belts just to be able to live normally.

Principles have nothing to do with it. From a fan and sporting perspective, yeah it’s pretty ***** and I’m sure we’d all rather see meaningful fights but we aren’t the ones getting in the ring and risking pugilistic dementia and being punch drunk but we are the first ones to bang on about honour and respect of what the fighters should do lol.

I’ll watch whatever clips of the fight appear on YouTube but I have zero interest in the fight or build up. It’ll be a clown show… but for 50m I’d be in the big ring with face paint on and the clown shoes too.

I think some box for the sporting aspect?

Boxing is a poor/working class mans sport. People get into it for the money and a way out of their circumstances. Sure, they'll want the belts but with the belts come money. I expect there are some who do it just for the love of the sport but most are after the paydays.

It's why I've always loved this HBO advert. It captures the soul of boxing perfectly.

People with better options don't often pursue a career of getting punched in the face.

Edit:

Not sure if anyone has noticed but Fabio Wardley is now a world champion after Usyk Vacated. From being in recruitment and white collar boxing to being a world champion. insane
