*** The Official Dark Souls II Thread ***

Just finished demon souls, really enjoyed it but sorcery really was easy mode! The 'last boss' wasnt a challenge but i think thats the point, the one before him felt like the true last boss

Never played demon souls or dark souls, would I be OK just buying this and jumping straight in ?
Yes, but be aware the the Souls games are notorious for how difficult they can be. They're unforgiving, brutal, but downright amazing. If you enjoy a challenge, buy the game. There will be a bunch of us in here who will offer advice if and when you need it :)

Awww thanks man :) is it an open world Game? I do enjoy a challenge, I think the closest game I can think of that I played to Ds is dragons dogma, thats probably a bad comparison though right lol :D?

Yeah, it's open world, but at least in Dark Souls there was a general order you should go through the game. You would know if an area was meant to be explored later on as it would simply kick your ass if you tried it too soon :D

Dragons Dogma was a little similar, certainly in the respect of being a 3rd person action adventure RPG. Nowhere near as difficult though. Another thing to note is that you're never hand held in Dark Souls. All the information you need is there, but you have to actively to looking for it. It makes reading the item descriptions and putting the story together a lot of fun IMO.

To echo what Davey said, you would be fine jumping straight in. I didn't play Demons Souls and jumped into Dark Souls.

At first I found it tough and very nearly quit as it is very different in terms of difficulty, not just the enemies/bosses but the terrain can be lethal (Blighttown, Sens Fortress, Tomb of The Giants etc), but I persevered and it's now the best game I've ever played I think.

Also, the story doesn't hold your hand, you have to work things out for yourself but the reward in doing this is fantastic and you really do feel like you earn your progression in Dark Souls. I expect Dark Souls 2 to be much the same, but I would recommend playing DS1 just because it's a brilliant game and you're missing out on a great experience by not playing it.

Oh and...2 weeks!! I haven't been looking forward to a game this much a very long time.

I would definitely try to start on Demon's Souls though, then proceed to Dark SOuls and then Dark Souls 2 after... I'd love to clear my mind of those games and start from scratch as if I had never played them before cos they are all so great. Demon's Souls really shouldn't be missed if you can help it.

I quit Demon's Souls twice cos I was frustrated, but then I went back and really was determined and I literally eat, slept and drunk that game, I was obsessed. Then Dark Souls was released, and that was even better. Cannot wait for number 2, so excited like ROB75!

Even the word "Blighttown" gives me shivers to this day, I hated that place!

I never minded Blighttown, though it's much easier to deal with if you come in via the shortcut. You can be in and out in a matter of minutes.

Now, the Valley of Defilement, that's an area I absolutely hated. Kept falling off and dying all the time!

Yeah that place sucked too. The FPS drop in Blighttown was the worst thing, lag so bad sometimes it would send you of the edge to death.

You will probably enjoy it more as you didn't play Demon's or DS tbh. I read an article a while back that made a lot of sense to me that basically said that whichever one you play first is probably the one you enjoy most, as learning the mechanics through trial and error, and not knowing what to expect is a very large part of these games.

I wish I could forget all that I know about the games so that I could go in to DS2 with no idea!

I may start another Dark Souls game today just for fun

Whats your favourite builds? I never really helped others out or invaded people so may dabble in a bit of that!

Or take my sorcerer on to ng+?

Wouldnt mind making a big weapon paladin style char if its viable

I love using the Great Scythe with Darkmoon Blade. Powers through anything and everything.
This, 100 times over. My Dex/Faith build was easily one of the most fun builds I did. An Int build concentrating on spells like Dark Bead will kill things faster, but it's almost too easy. Miracles are good because they're not really overpowered, but can be very useful.

I found my sorcerer way too easy!

I was thinking either strength/faith or dex/faith

Maybe be a warrior of sunlight for co op fun!

I started a new game as a cleric for faith, at gargoyles at the mo! Helped someone else beat them first, does that mean they are now beaten in my game or is each world individual?

When should i do a run to get the great scythe? I tried right at the start and got pwned

It's separate, you can help people beat them 10 times and they will still be in your world until you beat them.

I did it pretty much straight away last time, but I did it as a potential suicide run. Sprinted through everyone, grabbed the Scythe, then I used a Homeward Bone just before I was killed. I didn't try to fight my way through, I just ran for it!

Cool is it worth doing now then? Might give it a try before heading to the second bell. Wondering if i will go the back way to blight town instead of through the depths etc

Cheers lads for the info,is there a lot of grinding leveling so ?

Not really, you can grind and also exploit and farm in some areas but ikve never felt the need. but its also open to do so! however if you become to high a level, you will struggle to summon help at boss fights etc as you will be over the average level for summoning in that area (that i know of?)

p.s. got the Scythe!

Always preferred the Uchi to the Scythe myself - don't like long attack times and being so vulnerable I'd you miss.
