Pay a subscription for a beta?

What state is it in?
A VERY GOOD STATE.

SOO MUCH to do in the game mate.

So far the only downside is that the servers goes down for maintanence at least once a day from what i have experienced in the lasst week. But it only goes down for like an hour.

They are constantly working on it 24/7 including weekends.

The tech behind the game is out of this world and its what SC/eve and ED tried to do ......

Been playing this the last few days, looks like a game with huuuuuge potential. There's quite a bit to do currently I'm finding, but it's very daunting as a new player, so much to learn.

I'm finding quite a lot of bugs in it sadly, and performance is horrendous on my rig in dig.... mind you that is at 1440p.

Yea performance is not great at the moment but once your away from the markeplace, it settles down

PVP atm. i dont see any npc's yet. Then again i am still in the starter area trying to obtain materials to build a ship that can leave atmo! lol

I can't seem to find how the skill system works, is it time based like EVE or do you get points as you do certain tasks ?

I'd like to give the game a go but it seems like it's just going to be a massive time sink/grind

And the having to pay for 3 months sub is off putting, although it's not expensive

Yea it's timed based.

So you basically queue up a skill like in EVE and it learns no matter what you do (offline too?) what's the times like ? Are they similar to EVE with top tier skills taking months to complete ?

Yeah queue your skill talents, make sure you always have them queued as you'll earn 90/s where as If your queue is empty you'll only earn 6/s. Apparently, it'll take 5 years of time to learn every skill so choose your skills wisely. And yes they countdown when your offline also.

Had a pants night tonight, over a 1000 in the queue to join, took like 35 minutes, get in to do mining tutorial and it still bugs out not allowing me to complete it. The bugs are really frustrating me.

Are you guys in an org?

Not signed up, trying to decide if I can sink the time as I just started playing Lost Ark so don't really have time for 2 mmo's although the eve like skill training does make DU somewhat tempting but it's also something I didn't really like in eve as when you get to month long skills progression feels like it grinds to a halt

I caved and bought the sub just to satisfy curiosity

It's very..... rough around the edges, feels like an early beta but it does look like it has a lot of potential, can't say I've enjoyed myself so far as I've encountered a fair few bugs that have resulted in me logging off or the bug was the game logging me off due to lag but the skill training takes the edge off it as that's where your progress really matters. So far all I've managed to do is dig some holes, pick up some rocks and do the tutorials and build a basic floor with 2 crates for my base on the sanctuary moon and refine the stuff I picked/mined, going to try some industry tomorrow, the only thing I'm concerned about is the grind for resources, especially when you can only mine on sanctuary in your plot, then you're left to pick up rocks which is mind numbingly boring. Yes I know you can mine on other non safe planets but you can't get them without picking up rocks on your safe planet and I just don't see it being a pleasurable experience for many, I'd imagine most will try the game for a few days and give up unless they add some kind of afk mine option like you can with EVE :(

Also to go to another planet you got to first build a "dynamic core" ship capable of flying out of sanctuary and into space which again takes ages to grab materials to do so.

For all star citizens fault, it doesn't take you 10h of grinding in order to have a ship capable of flying into space!

I think the problem is currently, the only way to make any money is to mine/craft when you start, if they added some other gameplay loop to earn money then it would go a long way to make the game more entertaining because if you don't particularly enjoy inventory management and clicking left click constantly then the game isn't going to seem all that appealing and the first days of a game are the most important to keep players interested

IF you can break through that initial barrier though I bet the game is fantastic but it's a tough barrier to grind through

Also you need 10h to get a ship, BUT you probably need 30+ hours for reserve materials in case you screw up or somebody kills you and you have to start from scratch, I read of someones experience on reddit where they spent 3 days grinding (a few hours a day because real life) to get a ship and they lost everything because they burned up in the atmosphere, I mean it's a cool feature that it happens BUT the time sink is problematic currently

This is soo true.

I'm actually close to giving up as it's taking too long to get materials to build a ship.

Also, the pvp gameplay sucks, there's a reason why there is next to no YouTube videos showing pvp dog fighting between ships.

I have a bad feeling already about this game but at least I gave it a go

Yeah I'll see how it goes the next few days otherwise I might just log in every now & then to queue up skills in the hopes they improve the gameplay over the next few months while sub is active

The game has a whole lot of potential but it needs more options to earn money other than mining, would also be nice if you could do some actions on building to speed things up a little as you're basically time gated with manufacturing too

Yea i think i will do the same. just que up the skills. maybe do one or two underground mining and thats it

Same here. Great potential for sure but at the moment its got way to many bugs and performance is absolute dog doo doo. Doesn't even feel good enough to be pre alpha currently.
