***The Official E4300 Overclocking Thread***

I'm not useing TAT, cant get it to work on my Asus P5N-E mobo! Think it may be to do with the 650i chipset. Heard a few other ppl having problems with TAT and this mobo aswell.

I have the retail box, can you get the batch number of that??

In cpuz its says its a Week 38/ Yr 06 Batch!

Woh !

got my chip what seems like ages ago now, but ive just been SO damn busy i haven't even had the chance to OC it !.

in fact i couldn't even remember if i did or not... so was horrified to open cpuz up and see it at its stock speed !!

i couldn't have posted this before as i was suspended, btu i really wanted to get these pics on ASAP.

the very first thing i have noticed is that the IHS's are the same as the new quad cores and some of the X6800's
a totaly different shaped IHS. maybe this could be intel realising they have had a few less than flat heat sinks on the first batch of Core 2's ?

the pictures don't show it as clear as id liked but here they are anyway.

First of all this image has been PHOTOSHOP'd the burnt looking corner is just the pick out the edge a bit more as the original picture didn't !!

as you can see the 6300 on the left has a more 'pinched' corner to the IHS, whilst the the 4300 on the right has a flat, almost lapped looking corner.
could this have been the cause of the dodgy IHS's we have been getting ?

Left - E6300 ---------------- Right - E4300

another pic of the IHS

This pic has been posted around before... or a similar one ! the 4300 has been stripped down form the 6300.

OCing will start tonight or tomorrow maybe , but from what im seeing this chip aint all its cracked up to be !

So as a non major over clocker, looking to get a c2d chip to run at 3ghz, with probably budget ddr2-800 ram, would the e6300 or e4300 make more sense to get? I can't decide.

e4300 (9x334)
Needs a motherboard happy running at 334MHz-FSB and memory capable of running at least PC2-5300 speeds (DDR667)

e6300 (7x429)
Needs a motherboard happy running at 429MHz-FSB and memory capable of running at least PC2-7200 speeds (DDR850) although any half decent PC2-6400 memory (DDR800) should be fine running the extra MHz.

Nice clocks guys from such a budget cpu! Big congrats.

Another nice chip Big.Wayne - the CPU gods certainly smile on you ;)

Screenies are usefull for others to compare and provide some sort of validation of stability. I can understand some 'demanding' a SS as I personally would disregard any claim of a stable overclock without any proof if this was going to be my sole basis of a purchase (how much can it overclock). Its like a car salesman saying the car is mot'd but you dont need to see the certificate, dosn't instill confidence does it?

I personally don't doubt anyone who posts there overclocked speeds as you would have to be pretty small minded and insecure to mislead people in this way, having said that a SS IS very helpful in establishing validation and backing up your achievements thereby preventing the bashing and bickering before it begins ;).

There was a huge discussion about this on Extreme and it was pretty much agreed that a screenie of any type was a waste of time as they are so easily faked. Validated CPUz URLs were the only acceptable means of showing a processor had reached a particular level of performance and stability had to be taken on trust as anyone who can plaster their watermark over a screenie can just as easily cut and paste a few numbers. On a reduced size 1440x900 screenie who could pick up a decent cut'n'paste?

And that wasn't any slight at all to all the folks who plaster watermarks all over their screenshots. That's them stopping anyone stealing their screenshot to cut'n'paste it into their own claimed overclocks, which I can understand.

And the whole Orthos thing is getting decidedly anal in my opinion anyway. You either trust people or you you don't. It's as simple as that in my opinion.

I don't quite see things like that myself, I just don't automatically assume everyone who posts knows what they are talking about, also there seems to be a lot of kudos seekers who are in a rush to post about their uber overclocks and may not have actually taken the time to 'test' the systems properly.

A 1MB Super-Pi shot has some value, it says the system can actually POST and load windows which as anyone who really pushed their systems will know is an achievment.

A 15 minute/2 hour Orthos screenie also has some value, again if an overclock is wobbly it will bomb Orthos in seconds/minutes.

Again there is the whole priority1-0 thing in orthos (debatable).

People can post what they like, but people who take the time to test their overclocks and then publish some screenies including relavant BIOS settings are the people that i take notice off. . .

There can only be guidlines, no hard and fast rules but as said already a little effort goes a long way . . .

There is no excuse in not pressing print screen on your keyboard.

If someone is claiming 8hrs orthos stable @3.6ghz then I want to see it.

As there is no evidence to support that this chip will clock to this speed and be stable for 24/7 use.

Its not hard to print screen

If i could have got 3.6ghz orthos stable with e4300 then I would be happy to post a shot.
The only reason why people wouldn't is because they are talking BS

OK - I think you have to say what orthos you will accept then. 8 hours of Priority 8 blend, or 8 hours Gromacs - what?

Small FFT will show cpu limit for me.

dont care about the ram...

I wanna know the max clock of the cpu.

The ram is second in this equation and can be tweaked at a later date.

Ok, well my Orthos shot was tottally geniune and was set on priority 9.

Gonna try and push it further later 2nite! Maybe 3.4, but i feel cooling is gonna be a problem for us! Hmmmmm maybe its time for water cooling?? :D

Excellent somebody with the same spec as me, keep us updated i am very interested what the E4300 will max out at with this setup.

Also where did you get the E4300 from, OcUk or not? p.s just not will do if it wasn't OcUk, not trying to get you banned lol :p

Everything was purchased on OCUK :)

I have been away for the weekend so have been unable to push it any further. Im waiting on a cooler to arrive before i push the chip any further.

One round [1/1] would be great! :)

[edit] think that takes 12 hours but not sure if this is fixed on dependant on system speed?

I think it takes somewhere between 11-12 hours for it to complete one round so yeah I take back my 8 hours and a raise it by 4 (12). :p

Sorry guys...been a bit busy...firstly i'l address the "upload screenies issue"

I'm not stupid, i know how to do screenshot however my laptop wont let me!! The pages just come up blank and i don't know why.

I'm running vista and dlink havn't released wireless drivers so i can only get online on the lappy.

To easy:

The 3.4ghz clock failed after 2hrs 34mins. at 1.45v. I even tried to replicate the 3.6ghz overclock but that failed instantly too :(

Whats odd is i was able to run prime for 12 mins with 1.35v at 3.4ghz with my abit mobo (i sent a screenie to someone-can't remember who)

I can't even boot into windows now with 1.35v at 3.4ghz so i'm really confused.

The only variable i can think of are the ram timmings as the 650i has more options but tbh i don't know.

I need a pc for uni and i can't afrord any instablility so i've left it at 3.2ghz now at 1.45v to be on the safe side. This overclock passed prime fine.

I'm rma'ing my abit mobo and will try to replicate my earlier results once i get it back.
