First kickstarter I'll be supporting, even if they just ported the original with a few tweaks and a nicer soundtrack I'd be happy, don't have to do much else!

Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous :)

What a great time for PC space sim. I think Mr Braben may be jealous of Mr Roberts current activities. Realising that there are still people who want the space genre.

Pledged to this as well :)

Exciting news, I have backed at £30.

I think their Kickstarter page is a bit plain though, and why not call it Elite 4: "something", seems odd not to capatalise on the title people have been waiting decades for.

They had running videos on the BBC interview, so why not at least some basic screenshots for their Kickstarter page, more interviews with the developers, or even Braben himself putting a personal video on there. Maybe just early days with the page but seems odd not to go in from day one with the best page they could make.

I really don't get this knickers in the twist over elite 4,
This is elite 4, mind boggling, why does it need 4 in the name, it's called elite. It's elite 4 in all but name.

Donations are really ramping up now. So seems at least for time being due to name, they have no need for a better page. Just see how long it can sustain this funding.

Bit cheeky of Braben to say Kickstarter is the only way to fund this when he knows full well a publisher would take it on immediately (but then he would have to share the profits doh ).

235 employee company using Kickstarter seems a little wrong as well :o If the game turns out ok & MP is not a major part of it I may well buy @ full price in 2014. Elite has always been a solitary game not sure why they are wasting so much effort on MP components when off the shelf PC middleware can already do that & is tried & tested with many hours worth of beta why make your own solution anyway.

err Elite, Braben? Pledged £40, stopped myself going for £300.

Bonus: Elite physics, thank ****. Not that I didnt mind flying at full pelt for an enemy then spending the next 5 minutes turning round or playing three dimensional asteroids, oh no, hang on, that did blow chunks and was not what made the original elite awesome.

Doubtless that page will be updated as time goes by.

How can you disagree ATM, look at the funding racking up.

What they should do and what is needed is two different things.

Well, the funding is moving along at a fair pace, as you point out. As a KS pitch, there's no video, no screenshots, no tech demo and vague descriptions of concept at best. Other devs would not get as easy a ride for such bare bones content.

At least Braben woke up after the KS roaring success that is Star Citizen.

Pure text, no screenshots, no concept art. He didn't even bother making a pitch video. Then there's the rewards:

£75 to access a private backer's discussion forum? £100 to get in the first beta and £200 for alpha? Doesn't really good compared to $35 for alpha/beta that Chris Roberts is doing.

Yeah, but for only £5k you can have dinner with the developers in Cambridge.

I thought Elite was great, but when I bought the seqeal on the pc is was buggy peice of crap. Was it called Elite Frontier?

He could have shoved this up - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-20187897

Anyway, why complain? We can have both! just what you need to ensure focused minds in development, a bit of competition :)

I hated frontier, but mainly for this reason:

"I loved the richness of the galaxy, but with the benefit of hindsight I think the way the ships flew detracted from the joyous immediacy of those in “Elite”."
