I haven't followed this since the original kickstarter. I had no idea the release date was so close now.

I've only just watched that capital ship battle video for the first time. Those laser beams are so cool. So unfortunate that beam weapons aren't always included in space sims.

I cannot wait for this. When I was addicted to Elite on my C64 I used to doodle wireframe Cobra mk3's in my schoolbooks in lessons :)

Not long till the Alpha test now some point in December, then first round beta test in January Still time to pledge if you haven't already :)

Very tempted to go beta. Think I'd just like some good news from the alphas first I think.

Still worried for all its cleverness it might just be a touch dull unless they really have invested in inventive/interesting gameplay, instead of clever procedural formula etc.

I think I'll just wait for the finished game :)

Took me a little while to remember my login but it appears my current pledge is "Digital Copy (Early Backer Reward)".

What's the benefit of starting in the various different systems?

Also what's in the Founder's World and why does it need a £5 decal to access?

Wow apparently i backed this for £50 which errr... surprises me. I guess all my attention has been on SC recently. Still something to look forward to next feb! 2014 going to be humungous year, this, SC, Oculus Rift...

Alpha starts in December no official date yet.

I think they have had people working in the background on this game for quite awhile before the kickstarter campaign started.

"Hi Bob, I'm making this space sim game and I need some help beta testing it so there's no bugs on release in a few months time".

"Sure thing dude, I think I can spare some time"

"That'll be £150 please Bob, but don't worry, that also includes the whole game when it's finished worth as much as £30."

Couldn't make this **** up.

"Hi Bob, you know that game that youre really looking forward to, you can pay £150 to help us develop it and get access now, or you can pay £30 and wait for it to be released next april possibly."

"I dont know mate, I might only get a couple of hundred hours inbetween now and next april, plus i spent a couple of grand on this rig and i dont really want to make those fans whirr too hard because its glowing so nice."

"Your choice Bob."

"I have a choice???? Man, thats awesome, I thought I was going to be required to give it in blood or something."

Fixed it for you.

The £150 tier puts you in the game as a founding member of 'The Elite', £100 gets you first round beta access as well as the physical collectors edition and complementary copies of all future expansions.

This isn't like SC/S42 where ppl are throwing cash into buying ships to fill hangars before they even play the game, which imo defeats the object of playing the game in the first place.

Latest newsletter is out. Main things of note are:-

They are planning for first person combat at some point in the future, even by the looks of thing having it possible to have limbs severed!

The backers system will close on 6th December, so if you want to pledge upgrade do it before then. After that it'll be a webstore system with only access to alpha/beta and the game pre-order available.

So what's the alpha/beta like?

Is that like a badge you wear in-game?

Nontheless, they are asking for a lot of money just for alpha/beta access. I believe SC/S42 are only asking for $10 extra. Yes the pre-buying of ships has gotten a bit silly but the only real difference in that regard to ED is the level of success. They simply have a better marketing machine and a more compelling "brochure".

I recently upgraded to the £100 tier so that I could get some early access.
Just cannot warrant going any higher up the list.
So looking forward to getting some access.

Same here. I went for the £100 tier to get beta access, my name in the game, the 'explorer' launch and free future upgrades.

Above £100 didn't really attract me.
