**** The Official Google Nexus 6P Thread ****

One thing I love about my N6 the most is the battery life. From 7am to 11pm I'm usually left with 30-40% at the end of the day. And I don't have to use any battery saving crap, I have the screen as bright as I want it and get a few hours SOT without a struggle.

So I put my 6P on to charge last night. Checked it when I woke up and was shocked to see that the battery hadn't charged and was now at 31%. I checked that the charger was plugged in and turned on, it was. I'm now thinking that the cable has broken as there's now charging icon. I unplug the cable from the phone and reverse it to see if that helps. The battery icon flashes between no charge status and the charging icon constantly. I left the phone for a few minutes and its now down to 27% battery. I don't have a spare Type C cable and/or charger at home so I've turned it off. Weirdly when I turned it off the phone was showing the charging icon so I'm wondering if there's something gone wrong with the OS?

Any ideas to troubleshoot this? I'll either have to check out Morrison's or Tesco to see if they have Type C cables, which is unlikely, or get an old phone out for tomorrow at work when I can use the charger I leave at work.

Update: So I just turned the phone on to see if it was charging. It is now at 53% so it was charging. The charging symbol is now displaying static so it isn't changing between charging and not charging. Perhaps turning it off and on cleared a cache or something?

I posted here with the solution to my problem which had the same symptoms.

I had the same thing and this is what the Google support guy suggested. I didn't think it would work as it sounded silly to me, but I guess it was the software that caused it, not the hardware, as a dumb cable (computer's USB2 to USB-C) worked fine, but the quick charger was doing nothing until after those steps.

Hi Gav. I remember seeing that. At least you had a cable that allowed you to plug your phone into your PC. I've got one but its at work for when I need to take photos and videos off my phone quickly as Dropbox doesn't seem to work well on my phone on the work Wi-Fi. Looks like I'll have to get one for home so that I can at least test my original charger by plugging phone into PC. That was my first intention but I realised I didn't have the necessary cable.

Phone is now up to 80% so I think I must have had the phone on for so long without restarting it or turning it off that something went a bit wrong. Hopefully panic over! :)

anyone got the nougat update yet OTA?
Nope. I've been checking this page out (https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/ota) and there's nothing there for Nexus 6P nor anything here (https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images).

I know that the 6P isn't new anymore but its still being sold and the new Nexus devices haven't been officially announced let alone released so surely the 5X/6P devices are still flagship devices? If so, why is there no Android Nougat releases nearly two weeks after Nougat was released?

So out of the blue the touch screen on my 6p stopped responding this afternoon. Restarting made no difference so factory reset the phone and wiped data, still no joy. I do have insurance with protect my bubble but am currently out of the country on holiday. I return on Wednesday but then fly to Amsterdam on business on Thursday.
Have never dealt with protect my bubble before but if they can't send a replacement by Wed evening can anyone recommend a good temporary phone. Will give them a call in the morning.
Would also be interested to hear people's experiences with protect my bubble and touch screen failing on 6p. I upgraded to Nougat a week or so ago and the phone was working well. Many thanks

Is the nexus 6p still a good buy today? Ive been offered a new 32gb one for £300 but the thought of a oneplus 3 for £30 more or the looming new nexus phones puts doubts in the mind.....

If I had to buy today then I'd take the 6P personally, especially if it's now cheaper than the OnePlus 3.

In most comparisons (do a Google, there are a few) they have them fairly even overall, but the OnePlus 3 comes out on top due to the price at the time (the 6P was ~£100 more at the times most articles were written), but if the 6P is now the cheaper phone then it makes sense to get one of those, just for the software updates - how long until OnePlus rolls out Nougat?

Will also contact Google tomorrow to see if they can help but I presume that will take some time

If you bought the phone from Google their warranty service is fab. Ring them, explain the fault, and they will send you a link to order a new 6P from the official site. You then ship your old one back within 14 days or something.

I've had an odd issue with my 6P. Yesterday it stopped charging through the included fast charger (always used the original cable too), but was still charging fine through a computer.

Obviously thought the charger was at fault so called Google, but he said I would have to go through Carphone Warehouse (urgh), but he gave me a couple of steps to try first.

1) switch off phone
2) reboot into the boot menu (vol down+power), then select the option to power off again
3) plug in cable
4) hope

It started charging. I booted the back up and it's merrily fast charging.

Odd. Still, at least I don't have to deal with Carphone Warehouse. I think I'd prefer to just chance a new charger from Google than deal with them.

This just worked for me! I had the same fault. Thank you
