Throws an intreesting curve ball into the mix.

My fiancee does not really like my 5.1 system and therefore we have been looking at various soundbars. Not hugely bothered as I can relgate it to my office.

She is deep into the apple eco system though so pair of these could be interesting. That said, apparently only 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.0 so will need to see some reviews.

I can see this flopping as well, it’s just too high priced for what it is, even for apple standards. It’s a speaker that stays in the house so the masses aren’t going to pay the extra when there is better out there for cheaper - It doesn’t have the status symbol of say AirPod max.

Those willing to spend that amount of speaker(s) will want the best so will go for a better speaker (very likely already have far superior high end equipment).

Just a strange product all round. The upgrade barely looks like an upgrade as well. What’s the deal with this one being wifi n (4) and the old one being ac (5) - I had to double take when comparing the specs.

That kinda sounds you should go for sonos?

I loved the OG HomePods when I had them but like many got disillusioned when they discontinued them so went with Sonos and the family are happy so see no need to change now.

I've got 3x Original HomePods (Stereo Pair and a Standalone) along with a HomePod mini. I got lucky with my original HomePods and got great discounts on all three of them (friend worked at Apple). I think the original HomePods are absolutely brilliant, especially in a stereo pair so looking forward to see a comparison between the two and what's been improved.

I agree though the pricing is still off the mark for what it is, and there is absolutely no chance I'll be upgrading my three original ones.

I prefer the minis, and as they finally turned on the humidity and temperature sensors in 16.3 my 5x minis now have that in most rooms. Took about 15 to 20mins for the sensors to auto calibrate but they seem to be working fine. Really annoys me that the hardware to do that has been there since the HomePod Mini launched just over 2yrs ago because I wouldn't have had to waste money on homekit compatible air quality devices.

I think the mini is fine as a speaker in a room where it's just background but I wouldn't want one as a main source of music, I just don't think the quality is good enough. Early reports are suggesting this new one has better sound quality than the original HomePod so there's a good chance I'll pick up a pair for my back room. With a bit of luck, places such as John Lewis will have then with a bit of discount from time to time so I'll probably wait until then. I'm in no hurry.

Also very pleased that the temperature and humidity sensors on the existing range are being enabled but disappointed it's taken so long.

I had the original HomePod and I found the sound pretty good. My main concern is Siri. It just doesn't always get what I am a saying. Maybe I am the problem though. Anyhow, I am debating on whether to get this new one. If the price was a little lower, around the £200 - £250 mark, I think these would sell quite well.
