**The Official iOS 4.2 Thread** (Both recent threads into one)

I don't understand why anyone would want to disable the multitasking on an iPad, it's one of the best features of 4.2 :confused:

Is 4.2.1 a beta or something, or is that the actual version of the latest official FW?

You'll need to wait. There is a jailbreak that will work on 4.2, but it wasn't released at the time as they were 'saving it' for some strange reason. This elusive jailbreak will apparently work on any of the current hardware no matter what Apple do.

Because backgrounder imo is better. I only used my iPod which has had iOS4 on since it came out.

Apples MT keeps all the applications which work with MT open automatically.
It shows every app what you have been on when you double tap home, even if the apps don't support MT. Therefore you spend ages deleting them.
You can't for example: Load a video on Mxtube and then go to safari and still continue to listen to the video. Apples way would stop the audio.

I have to say though it does look nice how it works, smooth transitions between apps. As I said I've never really used it much

I choose what I want open
I can do the video - audio thing

Only problem is the iPad lacks RAM. So I don't think I've ever been successful to have a game open and then switch to anything 'half demanding' without the game shutting. Not sure if that's just me though

Not sure buds. It sound's like a Beta.. Someone who has the one from iTunes installed should be able to see the 'build of the version' .. I think!

With every new firmware you need to wait for a new JB update
 
Can someone who's updated let me know if it's 4.2 or 4.2.1 please? I need to get this through a download manager as I'm on 512K internet here.

The funny thing is, when I first got my iPad I was convinced I needed multitasking...

After jailbreaking and adding MT, I can honestly say it hasn't been anywhere near as useful as I thought it would be!
 
Updated with no problems.

Can't see either the new text tones or Airplay... got to wait for apps to be updated in the case of the latter?

EDIT - I'm using a 3GS.

I guess you're right in a way. I only use it a few times a week if that where the apple MT wouldn't work (as long as all the applications have been updated to work with MT)

Might actually update.. I can remove my photos so I won't need the password protection on them. Mxtube is a app store app (it used to be a cydia one so) videos will store..

I'll just screenshot my cydia apps and all that jazz so I know what I had.
 
Found answer to the Airplay thing:
"Airplay needs to see an 2010 AppleTV device on the same network in order for the button to appear."

Or any Airplay device, presumably. My Apple TV is wrapped up for Christmas. Woe is me!

Also I thought we were getting free 'Find my iPhone'. I tried registering and my device isn't supported apparently. [/eyeroll]
 
Hmm, my iTunes is telling me that there is no update for my iPad. It is because I have 4.2GM on the sod already?
 
5KB/s ... yeh! This is stupid lol.

I would download from the other site if I new if it was 4.2 or 4.2.1

I somehow let the download restart.. I've got upto 511MB/551MB at good speeds.. back down to 30KB/s now..

If you pause it then resume, the damn thing starts again. WTF is that all about???
