Are you getting an iPad mini 7?

Definitely reduced by a fair amount. I did the YouTuber clickbait test of a 6 (Mrs W’s) and the new 7 side by side, scrolling up and down like a maniac stoking the fires of nerd rage, and it’s definitely improved. Still there, but improved.

If anyone really wants to get wound up by jelly scrolling, have a look at the old Pixel C tablet!

I’ve no complaints about the 6 or 7 myself, and the issue never bothered me, but I can see why some are annoyed by it.

I’ve been waiting for so long to see this upgrade. Doesn’t seem a major upgrade but it’s enough for me. I’ve had my iPad for 5 years and just want something smaller for portability really. It arrives tomorrow.

I visited the Apple Store again yesterday and had another play with it. I tried several websites with text/graphics and I could not see the jelly scrolling effect at all, even with very rapid scrolling up and down.

Bought the mini 7 and gave the mini 6 to my wife. Could not be happier. Though had my wife not wanted the 6 I may have kept it longer. Cannot see any jelly scroll, its nice and snappy and Apple Intelligence is so far fun, whats available of it.

Strange as some reviewers are reporting some jelly scrolling.

It may just be that I can't notice it, with the naked eye at least. I did see one reviewer recording a slow mo video and it being marginally evident in that. However, that's more of a techical exercise. If you can't notice it with the naked eye, it's surely not that much of an issue.

Had some good news from my GP today, I no longer have prediabetes, so treated myself to a Blue iPad Mini 256GB WIFI & Cellular. Already have an iPad Pro 12.9" 256GB WIFI & Cellular but this is so much more portable.

Can only get 4G here which is why I only have LTE showing. Its the first time I've used an eSIM despite my iPad Pro having it but that also had a physical SIM slot which iPad Mini 7 doesn't.

I'm disappointed that they decided to use last year's iPhone chip (and a binned version at that). I think the performance is perfectly adequate for today, but it's just not going to have the longetivity of other iPad models which is a real shame.

The A17 is still faster than anything you’ll find in Samsungs flagship S24 smartphone.

Isn't the longevity of Apple products ultimately defined by the cessation of software support? A 'flagship' iPhone with the latest chip can expect to get 6 further years of the latest iOS releases from launch, and then security updates for another couple of years or so. However, by the time you are in those last 2 years, you will already be hitting issues with app compatibility. However, I know my Air 2 from Oct 2014 received it's final major software release with iPadOS 15 in 2021 and actually received it's latest iPadOS 15 patch a few months ago. So, i'm not sure if iPads are supported for longer, or if the Air 2 was just an exception?

I would expect the A17 to have the latest iPadOS support until at least 2029. I would personally like to see Apple provide software support for their devices for longer than they do though.
