Love my iPhone X. Came from the 6S (great phone). Can't say I mind the notch. Completely used to it now. Nearly all my apps (except BBC weather!!) are X compatible. Face time has been 98% success for me. Have you tried turning off "require attention for Face ID" in the settings. I believe this helps reduce the number of pin requests as you're not having to stare at the front camera :)

i feel my battery is getting drained way too quickly, i have everything on though. Brightness, location ect... Is it better to kill the apps or doesn't matter?

According to Apple the closing of background apps and battery preserve is a myth. Only kill apps if you have a problem with any of them, otherwise leave them on in the background. I only close mine prior to updating IOS (my own little quirk) :)

So after having the phone for a few days I'm really loving it. I was a Face ID sceptic, but its a lot faster than I thought it'd be and it hasn't asked me for the pin once, so far its 100% success rate. Haven't used Apple Pay yet, I reckon that could be a bit annoying, having to look at the phone to unlock it before paying - I shouldn't run into that though as I generally use the watch when paying. :)

I’ve returned my iPhone X today because, I wasn’t happy with the following.
  • Facial recognition responsiveness.
  • Having to swipe down for notification centre to view battery percentage etc that used to be on the status bar.
  • I think it’s a long reach having notification centre in the top right.
  • Closing apps being a two step process.
  • Unoptimised apps.
  • Once I became aware of the repair cost if you crack the glass back it made me worry about dropping the phone more than I would normally.
I think Apple clearly has a lot of work to do in perfecting the changes they’ve made. Which I’m sure over time they will.

I am curious if anyone else has returned their iPhone X and if so what phone did you purchase next?

Although we are all different 3 of the reasons you returned the phone seem a bit silly (to me! again, not saying it's a problem that you have issues with them)

Facial recognition has been just as good if not better than TouchID for me. My main problem with FaceID is that when you want to peek at your notifications it seems to only check your face once if it fails and you need to fully unlock the phone or put the display to sleep and wake it again.

If you have the reachability activated then you only have to drag down from about the midpoint on the left or right sides to get to the notification or control screens.

Force closing apps has been proven to be detrimental to battery life so you should only be force closing an app when it has frozen/stopped working.

If I was to return my X I'd probably just get the 8. I'm not interested in Android phones

Another thing that bugs me is, if you want to check your phone for the time the phone unlocks. It would be better if the phone had always on display.

I did know that closing apps wasn’t always necessary and I do realise that the things that bug me are little things. For a device costing £1149.00 for the 256GB I was expecting the phone to be more of a seamless experience.

First gen Apple products can have issues but they usually get ironed out.

For what it's worth I ended up with a Pixel 2 XL after turning my iPhone X just because of the amazing camera.

What were your reasons for returning the iPhone X and how are you finding the switch to Android?
Do you rate the Pixel 2 as a good alternative to the iPhone X?

Cheers

I didn't like the lack of TouchID. Face ID is pretty damn good but I don't always want to have to look at the phone to unlock it. Also I paid full whack for it and using it didn't feel substantially different to my iPhone 7 so I thought I'd try the other side for a change. On the android side the pure android experience is so much better than manufacturer skins so it was an easy choice really once I'd decided to give it a go. No regrets so far :)

I bought an iPhone 8 today as my replacement for the iPhone X fingers crossed I won't regret my decision. I couldn't move to Android because I'm too heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem and I do enjoy using all my Apple products. I am disappointed that the iPhone X with all its quirks just wasn't for me.

Can anyone recommend a decent standing wireless charger?

I got the Anker 5 Stand but realised after I got it that it’s only rated up to 5w whereas iOS 11.2 is going to enable 7.5w charging.

I wonder if we will see facial recognition die (I guess the "notch could then go as well) as you can now integrate the fingerprint sensors into displays?
