Following on from the WWDC thread, I thought it would be nice to keep all things "Leopard" in one place ~ might help clean up the amount of threads!

Anyway, aside from what we know at http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard and the WWDC Keynote 2007 here are my rolling updates :)

If you can suffer the bizarre presentation style Sun have used for this video it's quite informative about the benefits of ZFS. Seems wicked cool to me.
Nice video, really weird presentation style though.

Geeky Germans for the lose! :(

From what I've seen of it, the time machine feature can really rock! especially using a router and nas. I really want to play with this; as I want to see how good it is compared to microsoft volume shadow copy.

Will it work with any router or just the apple airports?
Will it ghost windows drives thats connected to your mac?

Baring the time machine feature nothing else really excites me about 10.5; just general high expectation for it, the level may rise as it gets closer.
It will probably work with any router that has a NAS connected to it, but I wouldn't like to say for sure. If they're using Bonjour then maybe not.

News... first in a longgggggg time :)
Apple appears to be making steady progress on Leopard and provided ADC Developers with a new seed today.

The newest seed (9A499) reportedly has introduced a number of new bugs, but subjective reports indicate it feels much faster.

This is the first Leopard update released to developers since the WWDC build was finally seeded earlier this month.

Apple publicly demoed Leopard at WWDC in June and is expected to released Mac OS X Leopard in October of this year.

Buy now (and order over the phone and say you go to University, 14% off instantly, they don't ask for proof).

I ordered mine on the 14th of July, still waiting for it to be shipped but should be today or anytime up until the 30th! Anyways, there are some nice features but nothing to hold you back - Leopard doesn't require a serial number like the rest of Apple's operating systems in the past so you can install and sell the disc on again, or just acquire it..
Actually they do.

They asked me for confirmation, granted it's the first time in 5 orders though ;)

I don't believe it's announced, however, October 2007 is the date so for now most people are thinking 1st October until a date is set :)

Hmm October usually means October 31st!
New rumors are now speculating that it will be the last Friday in the month.

This makes the release date as 26th October :)

New Leopard seed for developers out now *check OP*

I wonder how much of an issue there will be regarding holding off moving to Leopard because some applications aren't compatible?

As far as I know the apps will be backwards compatible, so unless they add something that requires the new Core Animation then you shouldn't be worried.

I'm guessing if you do have a app that's using Core Animation then you'd get a stripped down version of it, much like Vista's Aero works for machines that aren't capable of the sfx.

I can't see why they wouldn't work.

After all, Leopard is just Tiger with added bits really.. i wouldn't worry.

New Developers' seed just released.

Looks like they're getting closer to a final build , ready for a month of intensive testing in September then finally gold by early October :)

New seed available to devs.

After nearly a month without an update, Apple has delivered a Leopard update to developers. First, a new version of the Leopard Software Update Client has been seeded through Leopard's Mac OS X Software Update. Once this new Software Update tool is installed, Apple also provides Mac OS X Leopard Client Seed Update.

The new Seed Update is "recommended for all users running Mac OS X Leopard 9A527 or 9A528" and brings the Leopard build up to 9A528d. The update includes general fixes and is also meant to test the new version of Software Update.

Leopard seeds have been notably absent in the past 3-4 weeks. Apple's October deadline for Leopard is quickly approaching. Leopard will need to be finalized soon to ramp up duplication and distribution for the October release timeline.

Apple's last major Mac OS X release (Tiger, 10.4) was declared Gold Master on March 31, 2005. Tiger was later launched in retail stores on Friday, April 29th, 2005, almost one month later.

Main post updated accordingly... getting closer :D

The latest update (posted in the main post, I KNOW IT'S ONLY BEEN A FEW DAYS SINCE THE LAST UPDATE) only lists 2 known bugs;

Upgrading from Tiger on PPC Macs (Archive and Install is buggy).
HP Drivers are a bit shaky.

Latest download comes in at 6.5GB :)

Looks like a gold master soon!!!!

Question is: Is it worth waiting a month or so for them to iron out the show stoppers that could appear first?

I can't see them releasing a major OS (that's already been delayed) that has a serious showstopping included.

It's not entirely impossible, the general consensus of the users on here who swear updating straight away is OK ; it's usually a solid/stable initial release and you won't need to wait like you do with Windows.

I bought a Macbook 2 weeks ago, and the nice girl in the store in Birmingham hinted that there was no need to wait for Leopard... Apple are feeling kind again ;)

They usually only give you 14 days to ring up, so unless they're feeling very kind or a lot of people >14days <28 days are complaining then you've had it.

Installing iLife on a new install of Tiger is easy.. in fact it comes on the Tiger install DVDs.. You just select which components you want to install.

This was discussed in another thread..

Some people were arguing about paying for the family pack (as OS X has no official protection), but I say if you are going to go legit then it's a nice price to pay (for the peace of mind).

...better than the Windows Licenses anyway :p

Leopard seed-update has been released to developers :)

Apple has released a new seed update to developers running the latest versions of Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard via Mac OS X's Software Update mechanism.

The 9A557/9A559 Seed Update includes fixes to wireless networking and RAW image viewing in the latest development build of Mac OS X Leopard. The update is also being used to test new features with in the Software Update mechanism itself.

Apple seeded 9A559 to developers 10 days ago, which introduced a number of bug fixes and user interface tweaks. Today's update does not change the Leopard seed number.

Apple had previously announced that it was going to be releasing Leopard in October, but no specific release date has been set. Several reports have suggested that Apple is considering these latest builds as release candidates for the final version of Leopard.

Lol, well in that case i think I'll go and blow £400 now then. At least it's not as much as the windows vista scenario hundreds of pounds. :D

You might want to consider that Leopard is coming in 5 installments...

Leopard Home Basic
Leopard Home Premium
Leopard Home Server
Leopard Ultimate
Leopard Business

Oh, wait... ;)
