Going from an M1 Max to an M2 Ultra looks like a rather nice upgrade. How much do you think an M1 Max, 32GB of RAM and 512GB SSD would be worth second-hand in excellent condition?

That was sold in Costco Black Friday deal for £1800. Take away VAT...that's like £1500. I would say somewhere around £1000 on the bottom side and £1200 would be reasonable.

I've voted Yes in this for now as I need a new computer this year...before yesterday i was set to get the M2 Pro in the Mac Mini with 512G SSD, but I've always thought the base Studio would be a better machine for longevity with more ports, the SD card slot, better cooling and more RAM as standard. But since they are going to be out in a week or so, i will wait until comparisons are out before deciding.

I already know that the £1400 Mini spec is the one to get over the previous M1 Studio at £2k, curious how much better the M2 Max would be over the Pro in real world, LR/PS situations.

I don’t have any issues with the M1 mini 16gb in PS and LR, it’s still way faster than any PC I had so I don’t see any issues with any choice people made post that machine for years of troubles free PS LR use.

I still think it will be another 3 years before I even consider needing to upgrade it. Only thing I miss on the M1 is more thunderbolt ports But I’m going to cure that with a new studio monitor.

I'm happy with my M1 Max, 64GB, 1TB studio. Will eventually upgrade but definitely not this generation.

The Max -> Ultra upgrade price is £1500 for the same RAM/SSD. Basically an RTX 4090

When I first heard about the new Mac Studio, I immediately wanted to upgrade but having had a few hours to think about it, I think I will hold off. I can still do iOS development quite comfortably on my M1 Max Mac Studio, and I don't really need to upgrade. I feel like saving money would be the more sensible (but boring) option.

I love how the improvements over the M1 Pro/Max/Ultra are quite linear allowing for an easy overall view on performance and it’s related cost however the CPU side on the ultra would be overkill for my wants/needs yet the GPU on the ultra would be far more favourable given I play WoW at 5k and would like to be able to max it out which the MAX sort of can but any additional expansion would render its performance a grade lower once again.

I think m3 max is probably going to be a better option for me (assuming it’s going to be as powerful as the 3nm would indicate) but the wait to replace my seemingly “long in the tooth” 3080ti and 5950 based gaming system as well as my M1 Max MBP16 with a Mac Studio and probably an Air is pushing buttons I don’t want pressing quite yet.

I’ve got my m2 air, it’s great but gets pushed aside because of the m1 max but 99% of the time I really don’t need it over an air. Id use it if I could to game on but it can only just about manage the native 16” display, 5k has no hope.

Very much a first world problem isn’t it… :D:cry:

I assume you guys are all doing hardcore video editing. Otherwise there is little point to the studio no?
I will occasionally edit a video in iMovie.

I just bought mine because it was the best available at the time and I'd come into some money.
